As a woman who has spent decades navigating the often treacherous waters of the entertainment industry, I can wholeheartedly empathize with Amanda Abbington‘s experiences. The accounts she shared about her time working with Giovanni Pernice are all too familiar to many women who have faced inappropriate behavior and verbal abuse at the hands of those in positions of power.
Amanda Abbington has added more accusations against her ex-partner from Strictly Come Dancing, Giovanni Pernice – such as charges related to inappropriate behavior of a sexual nature.
In conversation with journalist Victoria Derbyshire on Newsnight, Abbington described an “ongoing series of verbal abuse, suggestive comments, and explicit gestures.” Furthermore, he mentioned that there was a 35-minute tirade directed at him, during which his interlocutor threw his hands in the air and hurled insults at him.
She went on to clarify: “Whenever I executed a dance step correctly, he would subtly highlight his arousal through his pants and comment that was the result of my dance move being spot-on, as I’d nailed it perfectly.
Apart from what Abbington stated, he mentioned that Pernice addressed her as “crazy and unbalanced”. She expressed that she didn’t take kindly to such a method of instruction and isn’t familiar with many individuals who did either.
I welcome constructive feedback, as it’s a continuous learning process for me. I strive to avoid creating issues or complications where there are none. For the past 32 years, I’ve been an actress, contributing to a profession that was at the forefront of the #MeToo movement. Thankfully, I’ve never encountered such challenges during my work tenure, and my experience in that particular rehearsal room was unique.
“I don’t ever make accusations lightly and this was one of the hardest things I had to do.”
Pernice has denied the allegations.
In an article on The Daily Telegraph, a representative for Pernice expressed their disappointment over Abbington’s intentional distortion of the report findings, aimed at tarnishing Giovanni’s reputation further.
Even though the results of the six-month investigation might not satisfy Ms. Abbington, it’s important that she avoid spreading untrue and damaging statements.
Pernice stated that all the actions were done in jest, and Abbington often joined in on the humor by making similar remarks to Giovanni.
In the recent past, I found myself compelled to express my thoughts on a matter that has stirred quite a buzz in the world of cinema. Earlier this week, the BBC publicly apologized to actress Abbington, following their investigation into her accusations of verbal abuse and harassment. However, it’s worth noting that allegations of physical aggression and menacing conduct were not substantiated by their report.
In response, Abbington viewed the apology as a validation of her concerns, whereas a representative for Pernice expressed satisfaction that the report did not uncover any signs of aggressive or offensive actions on his part.
