It’s been four years since Daniel Craig’s final Bond film “No Time to Die” was released in 2021, and we’ve been eagerly awaiting news about who will portray the super spy next. In the meantime, Amazon acquired MGM, which owns a vast collection of over 4,000 films and 17,000 TV shows, including the rights to distribute all James Bond movies. Now, it appears that after the completion of the deal, Amazon will also have creative control over the Bond franchise, along with the other co-owners.
Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, long-time stewards of the 60-year-old James Bond franchise, are choosing to step aside from film production to devote their time to artistic pursuits and philanthropic endeavors. In a statement, Wilson expressed, “Barbara and I believe it is appropriate for our reliable collaborator, Amazon MGM Studios, to guide the James Bond series into the future.
Broccoli expressed, ‘My life’s work has been about upholding and expanding the incredible legacy our father, producer Cubby Broccoli, passed down to Michael and me. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside four incredibly talented actors who portrayed 007, as well as countless other gifted artists in the industry. Now that No Time to Die has come to an end and Michael is stepping away from the films, I believe it’s time for me to shift my focus towards my other endeavors.’
It’s hard to predict exactly what will happen since there have been some less-than-stellar Bond films in the past (such as Moonraker, The World is Not Enough, and You Only Live Twice), but the new one could potentially go either way. On one hand, it might feature larger budgets, better special effects, and possibly even renowned directors like Christopher Nolan or Quentin Tarantino, who have shown interest in the role over time. On the other hand, they might opt for a more conservative approach by reducing the budget.
After Jeff Bezos, the bald billionaire, posed the question, “Who would you choose as the next Bond?”, a wave of suggestions came his way. Among the most popular names mentioned was Henry Cavill, but our team prefers Aaron Taylor-Johnson for the role.
