2025 rolled around and at CES, I got my hands on AMD’s freshly unveiled next-gen graphics cards! Powered by their RDNA 4 architecture, these bad boys are the latest addition to the Radeon RX family. They’ve even switched up the naming game for a more straightforward comparison with Nvidia’s mid-range 40-series GPUs. It seems AMD wants us gamers to easily see how their new offerings stack up against the competition, making it easier to choose our next gaming rig.
Known as the Radeon RX 9070, RX 9070 XT, RX 9060, and RX 9060 XT, these graphics cards have enhancements in their compute units compared to the earlier RX 7000-series graphics cards. The chips within these cards are manufactured using a 4nm process, positioning them to rival the GeForce RTX 4070, RTX 4070 Ti, RTX 4060, and RTX 4060 Ti respectively in terms of performance.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m eagerly awaiting AMD’s new GPUs, but they haven’t given us a specific release date yet. However, it looks like we can expect these graphics cards to drop sometime in Q1 2025. Unfortunately, the company hasn’t shared much about the clock speeds and compute units just yet. What I do know is that the RX 9070 and its XT variant will come with a whopping 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM, while the RX 9060 and 9060 XT models will sport 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Can’t wait to see more details!
In addition to hardware enhancements, the latest GPUs will incorporate AMD’s FSR 4 technology, offering high-quality 4K upscaling alongside additional features such as Frame Generation and AMD’s Anti-Lag 2. Games compatible with FSR 3.1 will automatically support FSR 4; however, to access the FSR 4 features, you’ll need a GPU based on RDNA 4 architecture.
