Patti LuPone, a renowned Broadway actress, is putting an end to rumors that she might rejoin the popular series American Horror Story. Since her stints as Lilia Calderu in Coven and NYC, LuPone has been keeping busy, recently appearing in Marvel’s Agatha All Along. Despite fans’ hopes of seeing her again on American Horror Story due to her past collaboration with creator Ryan Murphy, LuPone doesn’t foresee herself returning for future episodes of the series.
In an interview with Gold Derby, Patti LuPone was queried about a potential return to American Horror Story in the future. The question posed was: “Would you be open to revisiting American Horor Story? Ryan Murphy hinted at reuniting the cast for season 13.” To which Lupone replied.
She asked, “Which group are you referring to, however?”, to which the interviewer suggested, “Perhaps the most outstanding individuals, and you would certainly be among them.” Lupone paused, leaned back in her seat, and answered, “I’m not so sure. I believe he must have been discussing the fellows.
Patti LuPone acted as Joan Ramsey, a deeply religious character and mother to Alexander Dreymon’s Luke Ramsey, in four episodes of “American Horror Story: Coven” in the year 2013. Later on, she reappeared in the 2022 season, portraying Kathy Pizazz, a cabaret performer. Between these appearances, LuPone worked with Ryan Murphy on both “Pose” (in 2019) and “Hollywood” (in 2020). Prior to that, she made an appearance as herself in a 2011 episode of “Glee”, another production by Ryan Murphy.
LuPone attributed her readiness for the role of Lilia Calderu in Agatha All Along to her time at Kathhy Pizazz. “In this instance, fate was aligning for me,” she stated. “Having recently completed season 11 of American Horror Story, where my character transitioned from a bathhouse singer wearing magnificent helmets, to reading tarot cards with Joe Mantello, I found it serendipitous when I learned that I would portray a Sicilian witch and that my trial would involve a tarot card reading…
She went on to say, ‘I’ve often felt like I possess a gift similar to a witch’s. I call it precognition. Everyone has something unique and beyond the ordinary, but we usually don’t realize it. For me, it’s been my precognitive abilities. This is why I’ve always felt somewhat like a Sicilian woman with mystical powers.’
During an interview with ComicBook, the cast of Agatha All Along showered three-time Tony Award-winner Patti LuPone with praise. They expressed that collaborating with LuPone was an extraordinary encounter, and emphasized her kindness and support.
Ali Ahn shared with ComicBook, “Wow, yes. Quite daunting. Yet surprisingly, she was incredibly welcoming and gentle.
In a similar vein, Sasheer Zamata expressed that LuPone was extremely helpful and found collaborating with her to be an enjoyable experience.
It was incredibly enjoyable. In fact, our voices complement each other remarkably well, and I believe people might find themselves saying, ‘They don’t resemble Patti LuPone, but…’ as stated by Zamata.
However, when Patti LuPone compliments your singing ability, as Ahn put it, Zamata agreed, “That definitely makes you feel great.
“It’s like, ‘I’m done now. I can retire. I’m good.’” Ahn added.
Joe Locke, the actor portraying Teen/Young Avenger Wiccan, expressed that collaborating with LuPone was an “incredible realization of a dream”.
I mean, a dream come true. Patti’s someone I’ve loved for my who life,” Locke said.
