Amy Adams Stars in Nightbitch Trailer

As a seasoned gamer and movie buff with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming horror comedy “Nightbitch” starring Amy Adams has piqued my interest. The trailer alone was enough to send shivers down my spine, and the prospect of Adams transforming into a dog is both intriguing and hilarious.

Searchlight Pictures has released the first trailer for Nightbitch, the new horror comedy starring Amy Adams as a suburban mom who thinks she might be transforming into a dog. The movie, based on the 2021 novel by author Rachel Yoder, will be written and directed by Marielle Heller, who helmed the 2019 Mr. Rogers biopic A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, starring Tom Hanks. Annapurna Pictures had acquired the rights, then sold the distribution rights to Fox for around $25 million, according to Deadline.

Adams, who’s been nominated for the Academy Award six times, has balanced her time between films made for awards consideration and blockbusters such as “Disenchanted” and “Man of Steel.” The actress rose to prominence in “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” following years spent in lesser roles in productions like “The Office” and “Serving Sara.”

There’s not much in the official logline for the movie, but here’s the synopsis for the book:

A mother with great aspirations in art temporarily halts her profession to care for her newborn child at home, yet the reality falls short of what she had envisioned. After two years, during a respite from her toddler’s needs, she finds a thick tuft of hair on the back of her neck while using the bathroom. As she gazes in the mirror, her teeth appear unusually pointed compared to her recollection. Her spouse, who is away for work five days a week, downplays her concerns from his distant hotel accommodations.

As the mother’s symptoms grow stronger and her desire to get a pet dog increases, she finds it challenging to hide her secret double identity as a canine. In search of a solution, she turns to the library and stumbles upon an enigmatic scholarly book, “A Field Guide to Magical Women: A Mythical Ethnography,” which she now treats as scripture. She then encounters a circle of mothers engaged in a multi-level marketing venture who might be something more than ordinary women.

Nightbitch arrives in theaters on December 6th.
