In the upcoming film “From the World of John Wick: Ballerina,” Ana de Armas takes on the role of Eve Macarro, the assassin protagonist. According to De Armas herself, Eve’s kill count in this movie surpasses the 36 that were lost count of, and she confidently states it’s much higher. As quoted by De Armas, “We counted 106 kills just with the flamethrower, so I believe it’s significantly more than that.
During an interview, De Armas discusses a thrilling action sequence in the film “Ballerina” where her character Eve unleashes a scorched Earth tactic against numerous foes using a flamethrower. Clips of this intense action can be found in the trailers for “Ballerina”, including one that depicts Eve aiming a firehose at an enemy brandishing a flamethrower, implying she either seizes it from him after overcoming her adversary or resorts to improvisation if she loses her own flamethrower. Overall, “Ballerina” delivers a fiery fight scene with its flamethrower action.
In the film “Ballerina”, Annalina De Armas’ approximation of Eve’s kill count, which includes instances where she used a flamethrower, implies that Eve is being set up as a warrior comparable to Keanu Reeves’ character John Wick. This will undoubtedly serve her well, given that the marketing for “Ballerina” indicates John is tasked with stopping Eve. However, since “Ballerina” occurs between the third and fourth installment of “John Wick”, and with “John Wick: Chapter 5” officially greenlit, it’s safe to say that the death of the Baba Yaga at Eve’s hands is no longer a possibility.
As a cinephile, I must share my thoughts on “Ballerina,” a captivating film where Anna de Armas portrays Eve Macarro, an assassin with roots in the Ruska Roma much like John Wick. In this thrilling tale, Eve is driven by the murder of her father, leading to conflict with the Ruska Roma and eventually catching the attention of none other than John Wick. However, hints scattered throughout the trailers suggest that their relationship may not be as adversarial as it initially seems. There’s a possibility that they could even form an alliance in “John Wick: Chapter 5,” with Eve potentially joining forces with the legendary assassin.
In the previews for the film “Ballerina,” Eve cryptically states, “When you think of me, imagine fire,” hinting at her flamethrower combat against adversaries; however, fire is merely one of many weapons she employs. The high-octane previews for “Ballerina” display Eve defeating foes with swords, knives, axes, guns, grenades, ice skates, and even her bare hands and feet. Just as Ana de Armas immersed herself in martial arts, weaponry, and stunts for the film, similar to Keanu Reeves in “John Wick,” the flamethrower scene in “Ballerina” showcases how each sequel in the “John Wick” series aims to escalate action into increasingly extreme realms.
In the recently released documentary titled “Wick is Pain“, it’s vividly shown that an enormous amount of effort, hard work, and emotional investment are required to achieve the high-octane action scenes characteristic of the John Wick series. It appears that the cast and crew of the upcoming spin-off film, “Ballerina“, led by Ana de Armas, have taken this same dedication to heart, aiming to create a spectacle equally grand as the original John Wick films. From what we can gather from the promotional materials for “Ballerina“, it seems that this commitment also applies to Eve’s kill count in the film. The flamethrower sequence alone suggests that Eve could easily become just as iconic within the John Wick franchise as its namesake character.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina will be released in theaters on June 6.
