Anaconda Reimagining Has Paul Rudd and Jack Black in Talks

As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the news of a reimagined Anaconda film featuring Jack Black and Paul Rudd has certainly piqued my interest! Having grown up watching the original 1997 version (and secretly loving it despite its less-than-stellar critical reception), the prospect of a fresh take on this iconic B-movie is an exciting one.

A modern take on the 1997 horror movie “Anaconda” is currently being developed, with Jack Black and Paul Rudd reportedly under consideration to play leading roles. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the film is being jointly penned and directed by Tom Gormican, who previously worked with Nicolas Cage in “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.”

According to the report, it wasn’t clear who Paul Rudd and Luke Evans would portray. Some reports suggested that Evans might take on the director role, working as a wedding videographer, while Rudd could play an actor struggling with his dwindling Hollywood ambitions. However, other reports hinted at the opposite. The idea of reimagining ‘Anaconda’ has been circulating since 2023, with the project going through multiple script revisions. It’s interesting to note that a ‘Anaconda’ reboot was also mentioned back in 2020 by Evan Daugherty, who is known for writing ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’.

What Is the Original Anaconda About?

Originally released in 1997, “Anaconda” – directed by Luis Llosa and featuring actors like Ice Cube, Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Jonathan Hyde, and Owen Wilson – is the film we’re discussing. This movie took us on a thrilling journey into the Amazon rainforest, where the crew sought out the world’s largest and deadliest snake: the mythical green anaconda. Critics didn’t shower it with praise, and its box office performance was lackluster. However, over time, “Anaconda” became a cult classic and even gave birth to a series of sequels, including “Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid” (2004), “Anaconda 3: Offspring” (2008), “Anacondas: Trail of Blood” (2009), and “Lake Placid vs. Anaconda” (2015). The latter film had a unique twist, as it combined the “Anaconda” franchise with the “Lake Placid” series, which revolves around researchers stumbling upon a massive crocodile inhabiting a secluded lake in Maine.

Black most recently appeared in Borderlands and Kung Fu Panda 4. He is set to appear in the upcoming Minecraft movie. Rudd most recently appeared in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and is set to appear in Death of a Unicorn.
