The MTV community is mourning a tragic loss.
The television personality, Ananda Lewis, who was a popular VJ on MTV shows such as Total Request Live and Hot Zone, has sadly passed away at the age of 52, as confirmed by her sister Lakshmi Emory.
Emory posted on Facebook on June 11 that she’s now at peace, cradled in the loving embrace of Heaven. May God take care of her spirit.
A cause of death has not been disclosed.
Before she sadly passed away, Lewis had been fighting against breast cancer, a condition she shared about publicly for the first time on her Instagram in 2020 when she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.
In the following four-year span, the previous TV host revealed that she chose not to undergo a double mastectomy. Instead, she elected to live with her tumor and explore alternative methods for expelling it from her body.
In the October 2024 CNN interview, Lewis explained that his initial intention was to eliminate excessive harmful substances from his body, believing that his body, being intelligent as he knows it to be, is marvelously designed.
Looking back at the course of her treatment, she underlined her remorse by saying, “If only I could turn back the clock,” she added. “Admitting my mistakes in this situation is crucial for me.
Additionally, Lewis shared that her tumor had spread (metastasized) and her cancer had advanced to stage 4, causing her to ponder about her life experiences.
In a January article for Essence, she expressed, “This world isn’t designed for us to stay forever. We arrive, gather experiences, and eventually depart. Accepting this truth alters the way you decide to live.
She emphasized the importance of understanding that “prevention is truly the remedy” when it comes to cancer. She further stated, “I don’t wish to spend any more time than necessary enduring unnecessary suffering. A life like that is not the one I aspire for. When my time comes, I want to be able to reflect on my life and say with certainty, ‘I lived it exactly as I desired.’
Lewis is survived by her son Langston, 14, whom she shared with Will Smith’s brother Harry Smith.
