It would be refreshing if Lucasfilm could focus on the quality of their storytelling rather than stirring up controversy as a marketing strategy. Instead of relying on shock factors, the new series ‘Andor’ chose to incorporate a controversial theme like self-coercion for sexual gratification as the reason for viewers to tune in. This has led some loyal fans to turn away from the show.
As a film enthusiast, I firmly believe that the portrayal of rape on screen for entertainment purposes is inappropriate and unacceptable. The question of whether such scenes should be included in films is subjective, but in my opinion, they have no place in mainstream entertainment.
I find it baffling when people defend the inclusion of rape scenes in movies. I believe that these scenes serve no purpose other than to shock and disturb audiences, and do not contribute positively to the story or the overall quality of the film.
Additionally, as a fan of Star Wars, I feel that the franchise is known for its family-friendly themes and iconic characters. The insertion of unnecessary sexual assault scenes would not only be out of character with the franchise’s history, but it would also tarnish its reputation and alienate its dedicated fanbase.
In short, as a film enthusiast, I strongly believe that rape scenes have no place in mainstream entertainment, and the inclusion of such scenes in beloved franchises like Star Wars would be detrimental to both the story and the franchise’s legacy.

Disney Plus is releasing three episodes of Andor each Tuesday evening for the next three weeks, adding up to a total of twelve episodes. However, some viewers might have finished the series already given its reported production cost of over $600 million. While some Star Wars enthusiasts appreciate the gritty portrayal of true evil in the show, others question whether George Lucas would approve of such dark themes in his science fiction universe.
In the Star Wars universe, showing the authority of the Empire as abusive seems excessive. There are alternative methods to convey power struggles and generate audience disdain for the empire without resorting to such graphic depictions.
Vader wouldn’t tolerate that shit nor does the Empire condone it.
It has no place in Star Wars. Period. Unnecessary.

Indeed, much like Star Wars today, the response to this fresh form of misdeed varied greatly among viewers based on their individual beliefs. Some online users argued that the series is now exploring new territories, offering a grittier reality, and introducing genuine consequences beyond mere lightsaber duels and Force abilities. The portrayal of a migrant as the victim of such heinous act was praised by some fans for its depiction of patriarchal wickedness and the representation of oppressed women suffering at the hands of an Empire that appears predominantly white and masculine.
#Andor spoilers
Amazing! I wouldn’t have expected this subject to come up in any Star Wars content, but Andor is consistently breaking new ground.

One thing is for sure. All of this is a huge risk for Disney and for Lucasfilm.
For Lucasfilm, currently struggling for a significant triumph, the reception of Star Wars productions has been less than stellar. While Andor Season One was critically acclaimed, it didn’t draw large viewership on streaming platforms. In fact, it rarely made the Nielsen streaming charts. With astronomical production costs, Lucasfilm desperately needs a victory. Skeleton Crew failed to impress, and Ahsoka and The Acolyte were clear flops. If Andor Season Two doesn’t fare better, Lucasfilm will be left with only Ahsoka Season Two and a few films as their last hope. However, the feedback from fans suggests they have mixed feelings about the current productions. Given the studio’s urgent need for an undisputed success, this is a tough pill to swallow.
