According to Tony Gilroy, the creator of Andor, the unexpected release timetable for the second and concluding season of this Star Wars spin-off series is a choice made by Disney.
This popular series narrates the sequence of events before the 2016 hit movie “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” It focuses on the character of Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, and his gradual involvement with the emerging Rebel Alliance.
2022 saw the debut of the initial season, kicking off with a three-episode premiere. Subsequently, it moved to a traditional release pattern, with a weekly installment for about two months.
As a loyal supporter, I’ve always admired how the strategic, phased release approach kept our favorite show buzzing in the pop culture limelight for quite a while. So, it came as a bit of a surprise when Disney Plus unveiled their plans to swiftly dump all Season 2 episodes at once instead.
Beginning on Wednesday 23rd April (UK), the streaming platform plans to air three episodes of Andor each week during its broadcast, wrapping up the entire series in only one month.
As I wrapped up my work on the series, I learned about the film in question. Having completed our show by November, we had to be patient until Skeleton Crew was ready. So, we essentially had to hold off and wait for its release.
“It’s a Disney decision. There’s an internal logic behind it. They have their reasons.”
Gilroy appeared to hint at a degree of skepticism in the conversation. Initially, he playfully suggested that podcasters might find it a challenge to discuss the series, and later, he implied that viewers could feel compelled to stay awake late into the night to watch without getting spoiled.

He added: “What are they going to do? It’s a movie a week, you know?”
This past year, the Marvel animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” maintained a fast pace with consecutive episodes (double-bills) and sometimes even more (triple-bills). This speedy release schedule depleted their initial 10-episode season rather quickly.
In contrast, those instances tended to be relatively brief, averaging around 30 minutes compared to Andor’s usual lengthy episodes (ranging from 40 to 60 minutes).
