Star Wars often employs intriguing parallels, some being apparent like Rey embarking on her adventure on a desert planet in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, mirroring Luke Skywalker’s beginning. Others require a keen eye, such as Leia Organa adorning the same colors as her father during the Clone Wars. However, the Lucasfilm project that ties everything together most profoundly is ‘Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith’. As the film establishing the foundation for the original trilogy, it’s not surprising that ‘Revenge of the Sith’ dedicates a considerable amount of time positioning pieces and hinting at future events.
In essence, the extensive efforts put into “Revenge of the Sith” have left little space for other Star Wars projects to surpass it. However, “Star Wars: Andor” Season 2 pays homage to the movie’s somber conclusion by positioning one of its characters in a predicament similar to Anakin Skywalker’s and giving them an opportunity to make a distinct choice instead.
Bix Knows What’s at Stake in Andor Season 2
In the second season of “Andor”, following the incidents on Ferrix, Cassian Andor’s associates, including his girlfriend, Bix Caleen, establish a new life on Mina-Rau. They eagerly await Cassian’s return, but he’s delayed due to the Empire tightening visa regulations and targeting undocumented residents. A desperate Bix defends herself when an Imperial officer tries to attack her, leaving her rattled. The ensuing years are unforgiving towards Bix, and even on Yavin 4 with Cassian, she can’t shake off a sense of unease.
The main concern for Bix seems to be that Cassian isn’t fully committed to the Rebellion’s cause. She understands they’re battling for something greater than their individual selves, but Cassian appears blind to this bigger picture. Following a quick conversation with a healer who emphasizes Cassian’s significance, Bix departs from Yavin 4, sending a message to Cassian about reconnecting once the mission is over. Despite being hurt by her words, Cassian listens and becomes crucial in bringing down the Death Star.
The love story between Bix and Cassian unfolds into a sorrowful saga following the devastation of Scarif, and the situation worsens when it’s shown that Bix has a baby at the end of Andor. Yet, the final scenes of the Disney+ series offer a surprising glimmer of hope, as Bix and her child gaze towards the horizon, symbolizing the galaxy reclaiming its liberty. This leaves one pondering if Anakin could have learned compassion from Bix, had he seen her actions during Revenge of the Sith.
Anakin Skywalker Is Nothing but Selfish in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith
Similar to Bix, Anakin experiences a great deal of loss when it comes to those who are significant to him. His Jedi mentor, Qui-Gon Jinn, perishes at the hands of the Sith, and Shmi Skywalker, his mother, passes away before he can be reunited with her. As Revenge of the Sith approaches, Anakin is determined to protect Padmé Amidala, his wife, from harm. However, complications arise when Padmé informs him that she’s pregnant, and despite this, Anakin still believes he can safeguard everyone. Unfortunately, the Jedi don’t trust him, driving him into the arms of Chancellor Palpatine. The events that follow culminate in Anakin’s embrace of the Dark Side and the tragic loss of his family.
Padmé Amidala truly makes an effort to provide her husband with a way out, suggesting they abandon their current turmoil and begin anew in a secure place. If Anakin had accepted this proposal, events would have unfolded quite differently. Remember, without Anakin, it’s uncertain if Palpatine could have destroyed the Jedi so swiftly. Even if he did, Luke and Leia, two strong Force users, were on their way, with their father training them. After all the effort he invested, Anakin desired to see his mission completed, but Bail Organa had just as much at stake and knew it was best to retreat. Making difficult decisions is never easy, and Andor demonstrates that those who are ready to give up everything often find themselves on the right side of history.
