Andor’s Shocking Connection to Star Wars Rebels You Never Noticed!

The much-anticipated second season of the popular Disney+ Star Wars series, Andor, is scheduled for release on April 22, offering fans an emotional conclusion to the storyline featuring their beloved character. Over the course of four years (from 4 BBY (Before Battle of Yavin) to 1 BBY), season two will chart Cassian Andor’s journey leading up to his pivotal role in the events of Rogue One. The five years preceding the Battle of Yavin were instrumental for the Rebel Alliance, as various rebel cells united and strengthened into a single, formidable force capable of challenging the Empire.

In the first season of “Andor,” all the action unfolds during the year 5 BBY, telling a standalone tale about Cassian’s escapades (either successful or unsuccessful) that eventually lead him to join forces with Luthen Rael’s rebellion group. Meanwhile, another popular series, “Star Wars Rebels,” also commences in the same year and revolves around a small rebel unit using their limited resources to inflict as much damage on the Empire as they can. The sixth episode of “Andor” subtly links these two series, and you might have overlooked it entirely.

Kessel Plays a Major Role in Both Shows

In episode 6 of “Andor”, titled “The Axe Forgets”, the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) finds itself confronted by a surge in rebel actions. While some ISB agents view these incidents as isolated and unplanned acts by rebels, an assistant to supervisor Dedra Meero proposes an alternative theory, stating that the current upsurge might be too haphazard to be purely chance-driven. The assistant further suggests that there seems to be a pattern in rebel cell activities, with locations like Kessel being recently active.

In the Star Wars saga, the planet Kessel, renowned for its spice mines, has been featured several times, notably when Han Solo claimed he made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs while piloting the Millennium Falcon. Coinciding with the timeline of Andor, rebels from Star Wars Rebels inflict a significant damage on Kessel and its mine workers during this same period.

Star Wars Rebels and Andor Happen at the Same Time

In the second episode of “Star Wars Rebels” Season 1, titled “Spark of Rebellion: Pt. 2,” the crew aboard the ship known as the Ghost, which includes Hera Syndulla, Kanan Jarrus, Zeb Orrelios, Sabine Wren, Ezra Bridger, and the droid Chopper, are informed about a group of imprisoned Wookiees being transported on an Imperial vessel to Kessel for forced labor in the spice mines. Upon hearing this news, the crew decides to infiltrate the ship and carry out a rescue operation. Meanwhile, another Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) agent, Alexsandr Kallus, is determined to capture the rebels and becomes aware of their plan. Using this knowledge, he sets a trap for his adversaries with the intention of capturing them. However, his plan fails, and the Ghost crew manages to free the Wookiees, ensuring their safety and causing the Empire to lose its workforce in the Kessel mines.

In the same timeline as the events unfolding in Andor, the Ghost team’s assault on the Empire coincides, which is essentially the same daring rebel operation that Kanan Jarrus leads in “Spark of Rebellion: Pt. 2.” It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time a subtle nod to Star Wars Rebels has appeared in Cassian Andor’s universe. In Rogue One, when on Yavin-4, General Hera Syndulla is called over the intercom and her droid, Chopper, can be spotted wandering around the base. Additionally, Hera’s iconic ship, the Ghost, can be seen on Yavin-4 and participating in the Battle of Scarif.

In the second season of Andor, the storyline runs parallel to that of Star Wars: Rebels. It’s intriguing to speculate if any characters from Rebels might pop up.

Andor Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on April 22.
