Animators, Industry Pros Speak Out Against Anime's Worst Leak to Date

As a seasoned gamer and anime enthusiast with decades of fandom under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of dismay at the recent, unfortunate leak of unreleased anime episodes. It’s like stumbling upon a forbidden treasure chest, tempting as it may be, yet tainted by the knowledge that this piracy is causing genuine harm to the very creators who breathe life into our beloved shows.

As a passionate gamer, I can tell you firsthand that every captivating TV show or movie you enjoy doesn’t just magically appear on your screen. Behind the scenes, there’s a whole team working tirelessly – from writers to assistants, creators, and more. It truly takes a community to create something enjoyable for fans like us. For anime enthusiasts, this team is even larger due to the numerous animators and voice actors required to breathe life into our favorite shows.

As a passionate gamer, I’d like to address those who might not be fully aware of the recent situation. It’s unfortunate, indeed, and I can’t help but describe it as grim. This week, torrent sites have been inundated with unauthorized episodes from popular anime series such as ‘Ranma 1/2’, ‘Terminator Zero’, and ‘Dandadan’. The source of this leak seems to originate from 4chan, and it’s expanded its reach to include numerous upcoming shows. Titles like ‘Re:Zero’ season three, ‘Mononoke’, and even ‘Arcane’ season two are now under threat. It appears that nothing is immune to this horrifying leak, and industry professionals are now expressing their concerns vocally.

Via social media platforms, animators such as Kass Chapa swiftly emphasized that the recent massive leak is no laughing matter. It significantly affects numerous animators who eagerly anticipate the timely release of their projects. Moreover, this leak will unfortunately make the job more challenging for those responsible for producing anime series.

Chapa expressed his sentiments this way: “We’ve put a lot of effort into what we’re about to unveil, something we animators eagerly anticipate. Unfortunately, it seems someone leaked it before its scheduled release. It’s not only disrespectful but also incredibly frustrating. People might think they’re helping the community, but they’re actually causing more harm than good. Studios will start questioning our integrity and honesty, something they already do, I must add. I hope legal action is taken against whoever leaked it.”

Continuing the discussion, numerous voice actors have advised fans to maintain a significant distance from any leaked content. Clearly expressing her stance, voice actor Stephanie Sheh (renowned for work in Bleach and Sailor Moon) has warned online users about it.

“Although it might be enticing, I kindly ask you not to watch the leaks. We put in tremendous effort to deliver these shows to you swiftly and of high quality. When a leak occurs, studios are typically penalized even if it wasn’t our fault. This can lead us to face unnecessary expenses and inconveniences.”

Currently, no streaming service or studio has acknowledged the leak openly. However, we strongly advise you to be patient as the much-anticipated show “Dandadan” is scheduled for an October release. This fall will see the launch of both “Dandadan” and the new “Ranma 1/2” anime series. In addition, Netflix’s “Terminator Zero” is slated to premiere later this month. Therefore, we kindly ask you to exercise patience and respect for everyone who has worked tirelessly to bring these shows to you.
