At first, we found the Animus Hub perplexing when starting Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This hub connects a sequence of more recent games in the series and enables you to play them if they are installed on your device. It appeared to be typical Ubisoft launcher trickery, but it seems that the Hub could also serve as a means to delve into the series’ upcoming developments.
In an interview with PSU, Marc-Alexis Côté, leader of the Assassin’s Creed brand at Ubisoft, was questioned about the Animus Hub. This platform, it seems, is also designed to facilitate Ubisoft’s upcoming microtransactions. However, Côté explained that they intend to leverage this Hub as a means to interconnect their various experiences. He mentioned that there will be an ongoing narrative set in the present day, which will weave through their games and even the spaces between them.
The concept is intriguing, and though we don’t have enough development in Shadows yet to fully understand it, the game starts with some ominous, contemporary techno-lingo that seems significant for future events. It appears the modern day narrative that ties the series isn’t being overlooked; rather, it’s being expanded upon. Those who appreciate the modern day [story] can expect more of it after the launch of Shadows and in our forthcoming games. We plan to utilize the Hub as a connection point between our various experiences.
What are your thoughts on utilizing the Animus Hub to further develop the contemporary narrative within Assassin’s Creed? Remember, don’t blindly trust the opinions expressed by unseen speakers in the comment area beneath.
