Anora – TRAILER

As a cinephile who has traversed through the labyrinth of cinema for decades, I must admit that the trailer for ‘Anora‘ has piqued my interest. Having been enthralled by Sean Baker’s previous works, this film seems to be another intriguing addition to his oeuvre. The storyline, with its blend of drama, romance, and societal critique, appears to be a captivating exploration of the human condition.

Renowned director Sean Baker has previously created films that have been both acclaimed by audiences and praised by critics. His latest work is the 2021 film ‘Red Rocket’, which follows the story of Mikey Saber (portrayed by Simon Rex), a fallen porn star who finds himself back in his humble Texas hometown, where it seems nobody is eager for his return. The movie was well-received, and Baker revisits the world of sex workers with the unveiling of the ‘Anora’ trailer.

In a new twist on the classic Cinderella tale, ANORA focuses on a young woman from Brooklyn who works as a sex worker. Her life takes a miraculous turn when she unexpectedly marries the son of a Russian oligarch. However, their fairy-tale romance is put to the test when news of their union reaches Russia, prompting the parents to travel to New York in an attempt to annul the marriage.

As a cinema enthusiast, I was thrilled to learn an intriguing detail from the Cannes Film Festival press conference: Mikey Madison, who plays Anora in the film, shared that director Sean Baker would enact various love scenes with his wife, Samantha Quan (producer), to help actors understand and portray their roles accurately. The movie, which I’m eagerly anticipating, features a stellar cast including Mikey Madison, Mark Eydelshteyn, Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian, Vache Tovmasyan. Sean Baker, both the writer and director of this fascinating project.

Anora is released in UK Cinemas on 1st November 2024
