As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and excitement as I read about Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled joining the Xbox Game Pass lineup next year. Back in 1999, I remember playing the original version on my PlayStation One, and it was a game that truly captured my heart with its witty humor, vibrant graphics, and thrilling kart racing action.
2023 is drawing to a close, but there are even more games coming to Microsoft’s game subscription service yet.
As an analyst, I’m excited to share that I’ve learned, from the Xbox Game Pass X official account on Twitter, that Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled will be joining our service on December 4, 2024! Originally launched in June 2019, this title is a remaster of Naughty Dog’s original Crash Team Racing. The remastering work was skillfully done by Beenox, a team known for their support roles on other Activision Blizzard titles, including the Call of Duty franchise.
Initially, Crash Team Racing debuted on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Surprisingly, a PC version of the game was never made available. To this day, the game hasn’t been updated to run smoothly on contemporary gaming systems, so it continues to operate at 30 frames per second across all platforms.
Closing out 2024 with more Activision Blizzard games
Following the completion of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard King in October 2023, there was a delay before gamers noticed any advantages.
Over the recent period, games from Activision Blizzard have been gradually and consistently finding their way onto Game Pass at a growing rate, with titles like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, StarCraft, and StarCraft 2 being among them. Additionally, Activision made its debut in Xbox Game Pass with the successful launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
It’s predicted that Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled will probably be the final Activision Blizzard game to join the Game Pass library in 2024. However, this suggests a promising trend for more titles joining from 2025 onwards, potentially including the vast collection of Call of Duty games.
Speaking of which, it’s a little disappointing that Crash Team Racing is restricted to running at 30 frames per second, especially since boosting the frame rate to 60 FPS would significantly enhance gameplay on Xbox Series X|S systems. Additionally, it’s quite surprising that this title never received a release for Windows PC.
