Another Hit CBS Series Is Heading to Netflix Very Soon

As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher of countless hours, I must say that the upcoming arrival of The Equalizer TV reboot on Netflix is music to my eyes! With its intriguing blend of action, drama, and mystery, this crime series seems tailor-made for marathon sessions.

The television reboot of “The Equalizer” is set to arrive on Netflix starting December 16th. This follows a trend where CBS series tend to appear on Netflix shortly after their initial broadcasts, and based on past performance, this could bode well for the show as its ratings have been declining since its debut in 2021.

As a dedicated fan, I’m excited to share that “The Equalizer” is a fresh take on the ’80s TV show of the same name, which graced our screens from 1985 to 1989 on CBS. It later morphed into a movie franchise starring Denzel Washington, with the last installment debuting just a year ago. The new series sees Queen Latifah stepping into the role of “The Equalizer,” Robyn McCall – a former CIA agent turned vigilante on the streets, seeking justice for the oppressed. Her past remains shrouded in mystery, but her mission for redemption through protecting the innocent is undeniably clear.

For the next few months, the initial three seasons of this crime series will be available on Netflix, while Season 5 continues its run on CBS. The first season contained only ten episodes, but Seasons 2 and 3 boast a total of 18 episodes each, providing plenty of content for those who enjoy marathon viewings.

If it draws an audience, it will fall into a pattern emerging between CBS and Netflix. The streamer has recently hosted similar CBS dramas including SWAT and Fire Country which have done well well there, and CBS shows from other genres such as Young Sheldon and Evil. Netflix has had successful streaks like this with CBS and other networks before, often to the mutual benefit of both companies. It’s a ray of hope to the makers of broadcast TV that the structure of their stories can still compete with heavily-serialized streaming exclusives.

Ratings

In its debut season, The Equalizer attracted an average of 7.13 million viewers and earned a Nielsen rating of 1.7. However, viewership plummeted significantly in Season 2 to a rating of 0.9, and has been decreasing since then. But if streaming platforms generate renewed interest, this series might find a reprieve during CBS’s potential future cost-cutting measures. This newfound attention could potentially link the show to the movies, which fans have eagerly anticipated ever since it was initially announced.

Starting from next Monday, December 16th, you’ll have the opportunity to stream “The Equalizer” on Netflix. Currently, the entire series is available for streaming on Paramount+, with fresh episodes added following their television broadcast. Fresh episodes are aired every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
