Another Major PS5 Game Is Running Terribly on PS5 Pro

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must confess that I have witnessed the rollercoaster ride of console launches more times than I care to remember. The latest entrant into this pantheon is the PS5 Pro, which seems to be following in the footsteps of its predecessors, albeit a bit too closely for comfort.

A notable game for the upgraded PS5 version, the PS5 Pro, is experiencing significant performance issues, echoing early struggles faced by titles like Silent Hill 2, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and others. Despite its high price tag of $700, the assumption was that the PS5 Pro would deliver a noticeable enhancement over the standard PS5. However, it’s yet to be seen if this will indeed happen. As the full potential of the PS5 is still unfolding, it remains uncertain whether the PS5 Pro can meet expectations. At launch, the high-priced console has faced some stumbles.

This time, the recent setback can be attributed to a Ubisoft title – specifically, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which was launched around the same period last year. If you haven’t figured it out, this is the game I’m referring to. Although the new Avatar game, released last year and not meeting expectations, can’t be denied as one of the most visually stunning games from last year and an outstanding example of open-world visual appeal, unfortunately, it performs better on a standard PlayStation 5 rather than the PlayStation 5 Pro at present.

Similar to certain other PlayStation 5 titles, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has been facing issues with the PS5 Pro’s Performance Stream Resolution (PSSR), resulting in intermittent shadows and a shimmering effect on vegetation. This is reported by tech experts Digital Foundry, at least.

Essentially, the problem seems to be related to Ubisoft and their development team releasing a PS5 Pro update, rather than an issue with the console itself. However, it’s not just Ubisoft; other AAA studios are also facing challenges when developing for the PS5 Pro. This implies that creating games for this console might need more time and resources than initially anticipated or suggested.

Currently, Ubisoft has yet to address the problems encountered with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on PlayStation 5 Pro. Consequently, it remains undetermined if a solution is under development. Should there be any updates regarding this matter, we will promptly inform you. In the meantime, given the ongoing issues, it might not be advisable to play the game on PlayStation 5 Pro until these problems are resolved.
