Another Popular BL Series Is Ready for Its Anime Debut

As a seasoned gamer and enthusiast with a soft spot for boys’ love series, I must say the recent surge of popular boys’ love titles being adapted into anime is nothing short of exhilarating! The anticipation surrounding “The Other World’s Books Depend on the Bean Counter” has been palpable within our community.

An increasing number of Boys’ Love series are being turned into anime adaptations nowadays, demonstrating their growing popularity among fans. Shows such as “Twilight Out Of Focus” and “Go For It Nakamura” have shown that the genre is in high demand. Remarkably, this trend continues to gather pace, with Kadokawa confirming that a renowned Boys’ Love series called “The Other World’s Books Depend on the Bean Counter” has been selected by an animation studio for adaptation.

In the Fantasy Realm, it’s the Accountant who Holds the Key: Seiichiro, a diligent man in his thirties, finds himself trapped in a magical realm through an enigmatic ritual. As he navigates this new world, he encounters Aresh, a noble knight captain. Initially bound to his work, Seiichiro begins to question if there’s more to life than just that. (The production studio for the series is yet unannounced, but the light novel-turned-manga has been cherished by fans for quite some time, and the news of its adaptation has brought immense joy.)

The Other World’s Books Depend on the Bean Counter Follows a Workaholic Isekai Romance

In the abundant anime genre today, isekai stories are a common sight, but it’s scarcely found one that caters to the boys’ love niche specifically. Meanwhile, villainess reincarnation stories have gained immense popularity, often ending with heteronormative pairings between male and female protagonists in isekai settings. However, The Other World’s Bean Counter stands out by presenting an endearing couple: a dedicated nobleman who prioritizes his people’s well-being, and a hardworking individual from another world, struggling under the weight of expectations. What sets this story apart is that one character has grown up in the fantasy realm where the narrative unfolds, offering a subtle layer to their relationship as they reveal to Seiichiro that there exists a whole new world waiting for him beyond his current circumstances.

The dynamic is charming and endearing, making it effortless for fans of romantic tales to develop affection for the main pair. Notably, Yen Press handles the publication of both the English light novel and manga versions of this series. Kadokawa distributes the series through their ComicWalker platform. As of now, the story is still being developed, with five English volumes already published. The sixth volume, available only in Japan at the moment, does not yet have an announced English release date.
