Among the original cast members still on Strictly Come Dancing, Anton Du Beke stands out as a long-time veteran who’s been part of the program since its debut. Lately, he’s shared some notable changes he’s noticed within the show compared to when he first joined it.
In conversation with The Times, the judge from Strictly, who initially joined as a professional dancer, remarked that in contrast to the past when we were well-acquainted with most celebrities appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, these days I’m not familiar with nearly half of them.
Du Beke explained, “Actually, they were all amazing, like Tasha Ghouri, whom I hadn’t known before, but she turned out to be extraordinary. And the same goes for Joe Sugg, someone I wasn’t familiar with.
Additionally, Du Beke pointed out a significant distinction between the personalities appearing on the show versus those seen in reality TV series. He elaborated, “Strictly isn’t like Love Island. It’s not about watching good-looking 25-year-olds dance skillfully.
“We want the celebrity partners to reflect the people who watch the show.”

2024 saw the appearance of former Love Island star Ghouri on Strictly Come Dancing. Alongside her dance partner Aljaž Škorjanec, she was the first contestant to earn a perfect score that season.
Beke remarked about the dance that moved him to tears: “It was stunning, it was breathtaking. It simply leaves me saying, ‘This is why we dance; this is the purpose.’ People often ask, ‘Why do you dance?’ Well, that’s why – just look at it! We do it for the emotions it evokes.
Anton went on, expressing admiration for Aljaž’s choreography while not forgetting to commend Tasha as well. (Or) Anton spoke further, acknowledging Aljaž’s choreography genius and swiftly applauding Tasha too. (Or) Anton carried on, extolling the virtues of Aljaž’s choreography, yet took a moment to laud Tasha as well.
He observed the happiness within you that mirrors my own while dancing. As I watch you dance, I struggle to identify any aspect I dislike, but instead find myself appreciating everything. Truly, you are exceptional, he exclaimed.
Since 2004, Strictly Come Dancing has been gracing our screens, and last year it celebrated its 20th anniversary, receiving numerous accolades. One of these was a documentary that aired close to the holiday season, right before Christmas.
