It appears that every significant technology company seems to be hastening to join the exciting field of artificial intelligence (AI). Companies like Microsoft, Google, and Anthropic are considered front-runners in this area, with Microsoft standing out due to its partnership with OpenAI. This collaboration gives Microsoft access to cutting-edge models that it has incorporated into its technology lineup exclusively. Meanwhile, Apple might be seen as a bit late to the AI game, with some experts suggesting that Apple’s AI offering, Apple Intelligence, could trail OpenAI’s ChatGPT by about two years before it is released.
As a devoted follower, I recently stumbled upon some intriguing rumors that seem to offer a glimpse into the company’s future plans, particularly focusing on their rapidly expanding AI sector. It appears that the much-anticipated Apple Intelligence strategy is gradually unfurling, with iPhone 15 Pro and its subsequent versions being the initial recipients of this rollout.
As per Mark Gurman’s report from Bloomberg, Apple is said to be moving experienced project manager Kim Vorrath to their Siri and Artificial Intelligence team to strengthen their initiatives. In an internal memo leaked by John Giannandrea, the head of Apple’s AI department, it has been revealed that the primary focus of the division will be on revamping Siri’s underlying structure and enhancing the quality of Apple’s internal AI models.
Last year at its WWDC event, Apple barely tested the waters with AI technology, whereas companies like OpenAI had already established a strong lead in this field. With a two-year head start to create ChatGPT without competition, Apple appears to be playing it safe and adhering to CEO Tim Cook’s longstanding principle: “not first, but best.” This company is known for not rushing to introduce new technology, but rather focusing on refining its products to become the best in the market, even if that means taking more time to launch.
It’s possible that these endeavors are included in Apple’s larger strategy to create their own AI system for Siri. But it seems that this particular product may not be released until Apple launches its iOS version 19.4, which is expected in the year 2026.
In other locations, it has been confirmed that Jony Ive, the former Apple Chief Design Officer, is now collaborating on a new mobile hardware venture with OpenAI. This collaboration comes as iPhone sales have dropped significantly, particularly in China. The designer intends to use OpenAI’s AI technology to fashion an interactive experience less socially disruptive than the iPhone. Apple’s recent adoption of AI appears to be a strategic move that has momentarily enabled it to regain its position as the world’s most valued company, surpassing Microsoft and NVIDIA with a market capitalization exceeding $3 trillion.
