As a seasoned collector and enthusiast of all things retro, I must say that Arcade1Up has outdone themselves with their latest release – the full-size claw machine! Growing up, I always dreamt of having a claw machine at home, but alas, my pocket money never stretched far enough. Well, now dreams do come true for us grown-ups!
Arcade1Up typically produces budget-friendly, scaled-down replicas of vintage arcade machines, but they’re venturing into a new territory with their latest release: a full-size crane game. Every home arcade setup could benefit from having a crane machine, and this model offers three difficulty settings – Easy, Medium, or the standard for real crane machines – ‘Scam Mode’.
This cabinet comes equipped with a glowing signboard and button, an adjustable sound system, and twelve plastic capsules where you can place prizes of your preference. Additionally, you can supplement these with loose items such as plush toys to complete the collection. Pre-orders are now live on Amazon for $499.99, with a scheduled release date of November 5th. This would make an entertaining holiday gift or party game. However, please note that it doesn’t include a coin slot, so it’s not suitable as a money-making opportunity.
As noted, the claw machine is full-size at 22″W x 22.5″D x 61.25″H. They suggest that prizes shouldn’t exceed .44 pounds, but you could always go over that threshold to enhance Scam Mode. If you want to build out your home arcade, additional Arcade1UP cabinets can be found here on Amazon and here at Walmart.
Currently, one outstanding Arcade1UP choice is the Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 X-Men ’97 Edition machine, which debuted earlier this year. This model boasts 8 vintage Marvel fighting games, online multiplayer functionality, dual speakers, a two-player control setup, a 17-inch screen, and an attractive light-up imitation coin door for added authenticity. The cabinet also features stunning artwork as a design element.
Here on Amazon, you’ll find the X-Men ’97 arcade cabinet available for purchase at a reasonable price of $499.99. Compared to other Arcade1Up cabinets, this isn’t too steep – their original Marvel vs. Capcom 2 cabinet retailed at $600, for instance. The X-Men ’97 cabinet offers eight exciting Marvel games:
- X-Men vs. Street Fighter
- Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems
- Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter
- X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse
- Marvel vs. Capcom 2
- X-Men: Children of the Atom
- Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
- Marvel Super Heroes
