Are Xbox and PS5 Prices About to Skyrocket Due to Trump’s New Tariffs?

The latest reports about President Trump’s taxes on goods imported from other countries will significantly affect the pockets of millions of American people. This development is causing Nintendo to postpone pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 due to the tariffs, which in turn may lead to price hikes. However, it remains unclear how these increased prices might impact the pricing of Xbox and PS5 consoles.

Under President Trump’s administration, various nations such as China, Canada, Japan, and Ireland, among others, have been subjected to tariffs. The tariff rates for these countries range between 10% and 49%, with the highest tariffs being imposed on Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and several Southeast Asian countries. Starting from April 5th, a standard 10% tariff will take effect, and there’s a possibility of even higher prices in the near future.

The consoles for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are produced in China. For Sony’s PlayStation, potential tariffs may significantly affect shipping costs to the United States from China. Although we can’t predict the exact price rise, it could amount up to $200, depending on the specific model of the PS5.

Just like for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, which are produced in China, it’s plausible that their prices might rise by approximately $100-$200 each. At present, the Series X and S retail at around $399 to $499, so expect potential price adjustments within the next few days or a week.

Currently, the U.S. continues to maintain its position regarding these tariffs. However, we’ll be sure to inform you of any updates as they become available. As a reminder, these tariffs will go into effect on April 5th, which means a shift in market prices is likely imminent.
