`Ariana Grande Claps Back at Critics Over Changing Voice`

Ariana Grande is reminding people of the truth: the voice is mine.

The actress who played Elphaba in “Wicked”, whose acting in the movie garnered her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, responded to criticisms about her currently using a higher-toned voice compared to before.

Ariana shared on the February 3rd episode of Smartless podcast that one peculiarity about her which often surprises people is this: when she has a demanding day of interviews or singing, she adjusts her vocal range slightly higher.

The 31-year-old stated, ‘To maintain my voice healthily, I’ll adjust my singing pitch slightly.’ Essentially, it means raising the pitch of my voice a little.

Ariana started dating her ‘Wicked’ co-star Ethan Slater back in 2023, and she even took a moment to address the negative comments head-on, finding them intriguing.

She went on to say, “It’s quite common for vocalists, but people often comment, ‘That’s not her real voice.’ And I respond, ‘Yes, it truly is mine, but it’s slightly higher. Everything about it is natural.’

Given that Ari had previously addressed the criticism over her voice as Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked a year ago, she acknowledged that such comments might persist indefinitely.

She clarified, “I’ve discussed this topic countless times, and yet people continue to ask, ‘Where is your genuine voice?’ To which I respond, ‘They all have their own authentic voices as well.’

However, while some internet fans may offer armchair commentary on the matter, Ariana Grande herself expresses gratitude for the aspects of Glinda (formerly known as Galinda) that she can carry forward, particularly her vocal abilities.

She shared with Variety in January that she believes some changes from her higher register and crisper articulation while playing Galinda might persist. “Galinda demanded a significant amount of vocal work on my part,” she said. “Some things may fade over time, but I’m thankful for the aspects that will remain with us forever.

She added, “What a beautiful thing to be left with, and to feel the ghost of every day.”
