Fans eagerly anticipating the sequel movie “Wicked: For Good,” starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, have recently been given a sneak peek at leaked posters and descriptions of new footage from CinemaCon. Although the film won’t hit theaters until November 21, 2025, fans can still satisfy their curiosity in the meantime. NBC is offering more than just promotional interviews and stylish photo shoots; they are presenting an unprecedented event in “Wicked” history: a live musical special airing on NBC this fall.
On Monday, May 12th, during NBCUniversal’s Upfronts Presentation, also known as the event where entertainment executives unveil their top talent and upcoming projects to attract advertisers, it was disclosed that director Jon M. Chu would be the one to announce an exciting new special. Furthermore, in a recent report from Variety, it was divulged that Chu not only shared this information with advertisers but also unveiled the yet-to-be-released trailer for the upcoming sequel.
Speaking from the stage at Radio City Music Hall in New York, Chu announced the news by saying:
I’m thrilled to share a key highlight of our upcoming sequel film campaign: an unprecedented event in the 22-year history of “Wicked.” This autumn, the talented Cynthia Erivo and radiant Ariana Grande, alongside their cast members and some special surprise guests, will take the stage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. They’ll be performing live a selection of songs from the first movie, with hints of tunes from the second film as well, promising an evening filled with excitement that, in the spirit of Oz, will undeniably be thrilling!
