Ariana Grande Mourns Death of Beloved Grandma Marjorie “Nonna” Grande

Ariana Grande is mourning the loss of one of her most beloved family members. 

Ariana Grande’s paternal grandmother, Marjorie “Nonna” Grande, passed away at her residence in Florida. Ariana’s mother, Joan Grande, announced the news through social media. She was 99 years old.

Ariana shared that we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our cherished family matriarch, Marjorie (Nonna). Her peaceful departure was at home, with her loved ones by her side throughout her final weeks.

Speaking on behalf of the family, which encompasses Ariana’s 42-year-old sibling Frankie Grande, they expressed their gratitude for your affection, encouragement, and understanding of our need for solitude as we mourn and honor her wonderful, extraordinary existence.

In the course of her professional life, Ariana often expresses warm feelings towards her beloved grandmother, affectionately known by fans as “Nonna” due to her Italian roots. More recently, she shared her delight over taking her grandmother to watch Wicked in their hometown of Boca Raton, Florida.

On The Drew Barrymore Show in December, Ariana shared a heartfelt moment: “It felt incredibly unreal to sit with her in the cinema I’ve always attended,” she said. “To hold her hand – wow, I’m getting teary-eyed.

Apart from encouraging Ariana’s acting ambitions, her grandmother, affectionately known as Nonna, was also instrumental in boosting her music journey. In fact, Nonna played an active role by being part of various songs that Ariana has released, such as “Bloodline” from the album Thank U Next and “ordinary things” on Eternal Sunshine. This collaboration landed the 99-year-old a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Ariana enthusiastically shared on her Instagram in April 2024, ‘Celebrating our unique and stunning Nonna who has now written history by being the oldest individual to ever appear on the @billboard Hot100.’ We adore and appreciate her.

Since Ariana’s debut performance as the lead in Annie at the local theater in 2002, her grandmother had been her most ardent supporter.

In 2014, when speaking with Today, she shared her observation about Ariana’s talent that she had noticed since childhood. ‘Ariana proved herself to be the star,’ she said, ‘After auditioning, she was cast as Annie.’
