Giving her son a vasectomy as a birthday present is an unconventional yet practical approach to family planning. It’s not every day you hear a story like this, and it’s safe to say that Armie won’t be adding any more names to his brood anytime soon.
Armie Hammer blew out more than one flame on his 38th birthday.
In August, for his birthday, the mother of the “Call Me By Your Name” actor, Dru Ann Mobley, shared an account of the peculiar gift she chose to bestow upon him.
During the November 11th episode of his podcast “Hammer Time”, Mobley discussed with his son what he had given him for his birthday this year. He said, “So I phoned Armie and asked, ‘Armie, what would you prefer as a gift for your birthday this year?’ To which he replied, ‘I’m not sure, maybe some money or whatever.’ And I thought to myself, ‘I think I’ll get you a vasectomy instead.’
However, though the initiative came from his mother, Hammer – father of Harper, 9, and Ford, 7 (with ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers) – expressed his enthusiasm for the treatment when he visited the doctor to arrange the appointment.
In Hammer’s own words, “I consulted with the doctor and he asked, ‘Are you absolutely certain about this decision?’ To which I replied, ‘I already have two wonderful children. I don’t wish for any more offspring. I’m all set.’
In a candid conversation with my healthcare provider, I found myself confessing that the truly surprising instance occurred at the reception desk, as we were discussing a payment arrangement for the treatment in question.
In his own words, Hammer, son of the late business magnate Michael Armand Hammer, shared an anecdote. Upon walking up to the receptionist, she inquired if he planned to bill the service through insurance. He disclosed that he didn’t have insurance, which left her surprised. She then asked if he would be charging it on a credit card instead, but he informed her his credit cards couldn’t handle this expense. He mentioned that his mother would be contacting them soon to settle the bill.
The conversation, he noted, stopped the person working the front desk in her tracks, prompting her to look up from her forms.
He went on to say, “Indeed, this was a gift from my mother for my birthday.” Pausing, he added, “It was almost as if it were an unusual item, prompting her to ask, ‘What is this I’ve never heard of?’ So yes, my mother arranged for me to have a vasectomy on my birthday.
As for what inspired the unusual gift?
Mobley stated, ‘Instead of advising him against having children outside of marriage, which is what I’d prefer as a Christian mother, it won’t be possible. So, I recognize that there are many young women who would cherish the opportunity to have a child with Armie Hammer.’
During their conversation about the 2021 LAPD investigation regarding rape and assault allegations against him, Hammer and his mother unexpectedly touched on the subject of vasectomy. However, it’s important to note that this investigation was closed in 2023 without any charges being brought against Hammer due to a lack of substantial evidence.
Throughout the investigation process, Hammer maintained his innocence, and his mother echoed her son’s perspective on the recent podcast episode, still saying his actions were “stupid.”
Mobley stated frankly, ‘I believe you’ve figured out for yourself that it’s unwise to send foolish messages through DMs, as nobody has been harmed, neither by being consumed nor assaulted. However, your actions can still be deemed thoughtless.’
Previously, Hammer’s mother has voiced her opinion about her son’s legal matters and touched upon these topics in her recently published book titled “Hammered“.
In her book, it was stated that Armie regrettably chose actions that harmed his image and caused distress to women. However, it’s important to note that none of these choices amounted to criminal offenses. In fact, upon thorough investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, all accusations against him were dropped.
She added, “Armie was found not guilty of any legal misconduct, but the consequences of public opinion persisted, affecting not only his reputation, but also leaving some hearts shattered.
