Artem Chigvintsev Responds to Nikki Garcia’s Divorce Filing

As a long-time fan of Dancing with the Stars and a follower of Nikki Garcia and Artem Chigvintsev‘s love story, I find myself saddened by the recent events that have unfolded. Having watched them dance their way into each other’s hearts on the show and then witnessing their beautiful wedding anniversary celebrations just days ago, it’s heart-wrenching to see such a public display of affection followed by such a private matter.

Artem Chigvintsev is sharing his requests.

Two weeks following the arrest of a previous “Dancing With the Stars” professional dancer for domestic violence allegations, his wife Nikki Garcia (with whom he has a 4-year-old son named Matteo) chose to file for divorce, thereby ending their two-year marriage. This was confirmed by her representative to TopMob News.

Now, Chigvintsev has answered her legal filing, providing documentation that sets their separation date as August 29, which coincides with his arrest, and cites “irreconcilable differences” as the basis for the split, as reported in a court document acquired by Us Weekly on September 13.

Chigvintsev, 42, requested spousal support from Garcia and asked her to pay his attorneys fees.

Furthermore, the dancer is seeking shared legal and physical custody of their son Matteo, whereas Garcia, aged 40, has requested sole legal and physical custody, as stated in documents obtained by TMZ on September 11. The WWE star—previously known as Nikki Bella—has indicated that she would be open to granting her ex visitation rights.

Although they haven’t spoken publicly about their divorce, her representative informed TopMob News on September 12 that she is requesting privacy for herself and her family in the current situation.

This month, booking records for Chigvintsev’s arrest on August 29 were obtained by TopMob News. The arrest took place in Napa, California, where his family owns a property. He was accused of violently harming a partner or cohabitant under section 273.5 (a)PC of the California penal code and was later released on a $25,000 bail after being detained that day.

The arrest occurred not long after Chigvintsev and Garcia (who first crossed paths when she was a celebrity contestant on DWTS in 2017) marked their second wedding anniversary on August 26, an occasion they each highlighted on their individual social media accounts.

In response, Garcia shared verses from “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley, along with a heartfelt, spiritual sentiment related to Chigvintsev.

As a lifestyle guide, let me share an experience: A memory forever etched is the moment I inquired about Artem, a name whispered to the heavens. Engaging in dialogue with Him and the Divine, I grappled with emotions stirred prematurely. The pace felt rushed, yet somehow, it all seemed fated. Then, a song played, a serendipitous melody that echoed my heart’s symphony, confirming to me that I was embarking on a journey of love destined to unfold.

In the meantime, Chigvintsev posted something of his own, writing in his caption, “I can’t imagine my life without you, you mean everything to me.

Besides posting happy memories together, the pair have been honest about their struggles too. In reality, Garcia—who used to be engaged to John Cena—has spoken openly about attending couples counseling with Chigvintsev at the start of their relationship, acknowledging difficulties in communication following the birth of their son in 2020.

In a conversation with Us Weekly in 2021, she clarified that our previously strong communication system deteriorated upon Matteo’s arrival, and the blame is shared between us – I for not expressing myself adequately and Artem for not asking questions. However, it was truly remarkable when we both understood this.

Later on, she shared with the media that they had been visiting less often because they no longer had many problems. Regarding therapy, she expressed that it had greatly benefited them by stating, “It has been incredibly helpful for us.

Artem Chigvintsev was apprehended around 10 a.m. on August 29th, as confirmed by Henry Wofford, the spokesperson for the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, to TopMob News. Wofford mentioned that Chigvintsev did not resist arrest and was transferred to the Napa County Department of Corrections. According to online records, Chigvintsev was detained on a felony domestic violence charge with bail set at $25,000.

On August 29th, at exactly 2:18 PM, the court granted bail for the dance professional, who was then released from custody. This information was confirmed by Wofford to TopMob News. As of now, a court date has not been scheduled.

In response to inquiries from NBC News, Wofford confirmed that Chigvintsev was taken into custody in Yountville, California. However, due to a request for privacy from the alleged victim, neither the exact location nor any personal details about the individual were disclosed. Wofford did provide some insights regarding the arrest, stating:

According to an audio clip released by TMZ on August 30th, it appears that Chigvintsev initially contacted 911 asking for medical assistance following a dispute where shoes were supposedly hurled at him. However, the 42-year-old later informed the dispatcher that medical aid was no longer necessary. Nonetheless, Wofford explained that authorities still conducted a welfare check to ensure safety. He stated to Page Six: “Even if someone calls and says, ‘You don’t have to come after all,’ we will still carry out a welfare check for potential domestic violence situations. We won’t simply halt our actions.

Up until August 30th, Chigvintsev remains silent about the arrest or 911 incident, with our team at TopMob News having made contact with his representative in search of a statement, though we have not received any response as of now.

As I prepare for the upcoming season of “Dancing With the Stars,” I find myself reflecting on recent events that have caused a stir in the dance community. Just three weeks before the season 33 premiere, news broke about my fellow dancer and past Mirrorball winner, Artem Chigvintsev, being arrested. However, I want to clarify that I was not part of this season’s cast, according to reports from Page Six and Variety. At this point, ABC has yet to respond to TopMob News’ request for comment on the matter.

A representative for Nikki Garcia, who danced together on season 25 of Dancing With the Stars with Artem Chigvintsev in 2017, issued a statement about his arrest on August 30. The representative asked for privacy for Nikki and her family, stating that this matter is personal.

Following Chigvintsev’s arrest, Cheryl Burke, a former professional dancer on “Dancing With the Stars” who retired in 2022 after 26 seasons, expressed her feelings about the situation. Recalling that they were once close and lived together at some point, Burke shared on her podcast “Sex, Lies and Spray Tans” that she was left in “complete shock.
