As a seasoned observer of human dynamics, I find myself deeply saddened by the events that unfolded in the life of Artem Chigvintsev. The allegations of domestic violence are grave and have far-reaching consequences, not only for the individuals involved but also for their families and loved ones.
Artem Chigvintsev is still in step with his Dancing With the Stars family.
As a devoted admirer, I simply couldn’t miss the spectacular appearance of my idol, the renowned dancer, amidst his current life transitions, on the set of the show for its historic 500th episode! Accompanied by his cherished colleague, the equally captivating Peta Murgatroyd, this moment was captured in Peta’s Instagram Story on November 12.
In the video, Chigvintsev is seen alongside Murgatroyd and her spouse Maxim Chmerkovskiy, observing the dance floor performances from a viewpoint of the spectators.
Chigvintsev, who didn’t get rehired for season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars,” flashes a grin along with a double peace sign during his fleeting instant on camera.
Recently, at the age of 42, this individual made a public appearance, which occurred approximately three months following his arrest in Napa, California on August 29 for allegations of domestic violence. He was granted $25,000 bail on the same day and subsequently released. However, these charges were eventually dismissed.
About two weeks ago, Garcia, who has a four-year-old son named Matteo with Chigvintsev, submitted divorce papers, marking the end of their two-year marriage.
Although Chigvintsev hasn’t said much about it, a recent court document from October 31 describes the financial hardships he’s experienced due to his ongoing legal issues.
According to the documents, which were acquired by The Daily Mail on November 6th, he claimed that following his mugshot and arrest due to her false accusations, he was removed from the faculty list. This action led to a loss of more than $100,000 in income.
In his prior court documents, Chigvintsev asserted that Garcia had been the aggressor. Moreover, he emphasized that some of Garcia’s allegations against him were untrue.
In another part of the court filing submitted to Napa Superior Court, he mentioned that not only did he lose income from social media promotions, but it seems she has been profiting from this source because she prioritized her own career over the truth when lying to the police, at my expense.
In contrast to their split, Garcia has been keeping a low profile during the divorce proceedings. However, it’s been reported by TMZ that her representative stated she chose to dismiss the domestic violence allegations not because she wished for Chigvintsev to be imprisoned, but rather to spare him from going to jail.
Garcia’s representative stated earlier to TopMob News that this divorce situation is personal and asks for discretion while they handle it. They prefer privacy not just for Garcia but also for her family members during this period.

Artem Chigvintsev was apprehended around 10 a.m. on August 29, according to Henry Wofford, the Public Information Officer from the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, who confirmed this to TopMob News.
On August 29th, at 2:18 pm, the jail officially released the dance professional who had posted bail, as confirmed by Wofford to TopMob News. No specific court date has been set as of now.
In the report by NBC News, it was mentioned that Wofford confirmed Chigvintsev’s arrest in Yountville, California but did not disclose the specific location out of respect for the privacy request from the alleged victim. Due to this request, neither the name, gender, age nor relationship of the alleged victim to Chigvintsev was released by the Sheriff. Wofford did provide some details about the arrest, stating that visible injuries or credible eyewitnesses often lead to felony domestic violence charges. He added that while more evidence could potentially change the charge, at the time of the arrest, deputies felt it warranted a felony charge instead of a misdemeanor. Additionally, Wofford explained why victims may choose to keep personal information private in such cases. They might feel embarrassed, threatened, or concerned about how the incident affects their family. He emphasized that it’s crucial to give victims time and support so they can understand that help is available.
In a recording released by TMZ on August 30th, it appears that Chigvintsev initially phoned 911 asking for medical assistance following an altercation where shoes were supposedly thrown at him. However, the call later indicated that he no longer required medical attention. Nevertheless, Wofford explained that authorities still conducted a welfare check. He stated to Page Six, “In cases of domestic violence, even if someone says ‘You don’t need to come anymore,’ we still perform a welfare check. We won’t simply halt our proceedings.
As of Aug. 30, Chigvintsev has yet to speak publicly on the arrest or 911 call. TopMob News has reached out to his rep for comment but has yet to hear back.
Almost a month ago, Chigvintsev was detained. This incident took place just under three weeks before the start of season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars.” Interestingly, despite his past victory at the Mirrorball and his involvement in 12 seasons of the show, he wasn’t part of this year’s cast according to reports from Page Six and Variety. So far, ABC has not provided a comment on our inquiry from TopMob News.
A representative for Nikki Garcia, who first met Artem Chigvintsev during their pairing on Dancing With the Stars season 25 in 2017, commented about his arrest following his release on August 30th. They requested privacy for her and her family at this time, stating that this is a personal matter.
Following the arrest of Chigvintsev, Cheryl Burke, who retired as a professional dancer from “Dancing With the Stars” in 2022 after 26 seasons on the show, expressed her feelings about the situation. As someone she had grown up with and lived with at one point, Burke stated on her podcast “Sex, Lies and Spray Tans” that she was in “complete shock” over his arrest. On the August 30 episode, recorded the day before, she expressed sympathy for everyone involved, stating, “My heart goes out to everyone. It’s just really hard for me because he was my family. I don’t know what to say here other than I hope everybody is okay.” In a clip from her podcast shared on TikTok, Burke also provided resources.
On September 24, 2024, I, an ardent fan, was overjoyed to learn that Allison Haley, the District Attorney of Napa County, had announced that her office would choose not to press charges against Chigvintsev. This decision came after a meticulous examination of the criminal investigation and a thoughtful assessment of the evidence that was presented to her office.
“If you find yourself in a situation of domestic violence, reach out for support. You can contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), or text ‘START’ to 88788, or visit their website at https://www.thehotline.org/.
On September 25, 2024, Chigvintsev expressed his heartfelt relief and gratitude in an interview with TopMob News, as the domestic violence charge against him had been dismissed.
He confided that this period has been incredibly challenging for him, but he’s grateful that honesty has triumphed.
The dancer added that he is “hopeful” in securing an equal co-parenting arrangement with Garcia, who requested for sole legal and physical custody of their son Matteo in her to Sept. 11 divorce filing.
Chigvintsev expressed that he’s excited about leaving this phase behind and putting more emphasis on becoming the finest father possible.
According to TMZ’s report, Garcia acquired a protective order against her former partner due to her claim that he had tackled her on several occasions and kept her pinned to the ground in their child’s presence.
Following Artem’s arrest on August 29, 2024, Nikki has chosen to apply for a short-term Domestic Violence Protection Order, ensuring safety for herself and her child. Despite Nikki asking the Napa District Attorney not to press charges against Artem so he wouldn’t go to jail, it’s important that he is held responsible for his actions. In addition, Nikki and her son require protection.
