As Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Passes 2 Million Players, Ubisoft Teases More to Come

2024 saw an abundance of incredible games, yet one that seems to have flown under the radar (at least, that’s how it feels) is Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Crown.

Last year in January, I jumped into a game that debuted on both PS5 and PS4. It garnered a storm of critical praise and left a deep impression on those who dived in. Yet, it didn’t quite reach the heights it seemed destined for. However, here’s something worth shouting about: they’ve now confirmed that over 2 million gamers like me have joined this incredible adventure!

The official number of players has been announced in a social media post, along with a hint at additional developments for the Prince of Persia series.

Certainly! Of course, we’re aware that the side-scrolling roguelike game called The Rogue Prince of Persia is planned for release on consoles at some point. Moreover, the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is still being developed.

Whether the post is suggesting yet more is on the way, it’s hard to say.

In the past few months, I’ve learned that our beloved game managed to sell approximately 1.3 million copies in its inaugural year. That’s an impressive achievement, but unfortunately, it didn’t seem to be enough to retain the entire team dedicated solely to this project within Ubisoft. Instead, they were reassigned to other tasks, hinting at the game’s performance not meeting expectations for ongoing development.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel a tad disappointed that the game didn’t quite take off as expected in terms of sales. While it did get some post-release updates and downloadable content, I believe it could have benefited from even more if its sales had been stronger.

In essence, having 2 million players isn’t too shabby, and it appears as though Ubisoft might be revisiting the Prince of Persia series. It remains uncertain if this means a sequel to The Lost Crown will materialize, but we certainly would be eager to join in on that adventure.
