Ashanti Teases Baby No. 2 With Nelly: ‘Definitely a Girl Would Be Great!’

Ashanti still has the baby fever.

A little over a year has passed since the “Foolish” singer gave birth to her son Kareem Kenkaide “KK” Haynes with her husband Nelly, and her heart remains capable of loving even more.

As a lifestyle expert, I couldn’t help but radiate enthusiasm when speaking with Will Marfuggi of TopMob News in an exclusive chat. I find myself overwhelmed with joy, deeply satisfied, and profoundly moved. My life has undergone a remarkable transformation, one that has only served to enrich it further. I am brimming, if you will – my life’s essence is overflowing, just as a cup might when it’s filled to the brim.

Meanwhile, as the artist known for “Rock With You” is gearing up for her film release titled “No Address“, scheduled for February 28, she expresses a strong desire to expand their family by welcoming another child with Nelly.

She mentioned that they plan to have more children, hinting that if she could decide the gender, she’d prefer a daughter who would be similar to herself. “A girl would help balance things at home,” she said, as she currently finds herself outnumbered in the household. “Tune into TopMob News tonight, Feb. 25 at 11 p.m., for more on this.

Absolutely, Ashanti, who marked a year with the “Ride Wit Me” rapper in December, has been thriving recently. She’s also become a mother to KK, and she’s found her way back to her long-term partner. In fact, they reignited their romance from the early 2000s in 2023, and now they’re building their family together.

Ashanti explained that their relationship spanned over 11 years with breaks in between. After a significant period of animosity, they went their separate ways. However, things changed and they managed to move past their differences.

As she put it, “It just feels like timing is everything.”

This go-around, though, the John Tucker Must Die alum emphasized that the timing was “divine.”

Ashanti explained, “It was as if I was saying, ‘I never thought these emotions would resurface,'” referring to her experience. When our conversations and relationship resumed, it felt similar to, “‘Hold on, weren’t these feelings absent before? How could they possibly return?’

Meanwhile, Nelly has also echoed that his and Ashanti’s romantic revival was not on his radar.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that as follows: “During an episode of ‘Boss Moves With Rasheeda’ in 2023, I shared that our separation wasn’t something deliberately orchestrated. Instead, it seems we were both following our individual paths. Interestingly, though, being apart has provided us with a deeper understanding of each other.

However, the artist famous for “Hot in Herre” expressed that this time it’s for eternity. Elsewhere in the episode, he stated, “My intention is to pass away as a married man. When I made that vow, I assure you, death will truly part us.

Nelly and Ashanti initially met at the unveiling of the 2003 Grammy Awards nominations. In an interview for VH1’s Behind the Music special, she reminisced that he might have been joking when he asked for her autograph, which ended up in numerous publications as something other than what it was initially intended to be – a joke. However, they didn’t start dating immediately. She went on to mention that obtaining his contact information took him some time.

Over the subsequent years, both the singer known for “Happy” and the artist behind “Hot In Herre” frequently appeared at various events together – even celebrating each other’s birthdays. However, when asked by People magazine, Ashanti clarified that she and Nelly were not in a romantic relationship but instead maintained a close friendship.

Nevertheless, the pair fueled relationship speculation by attending basketball matches together, going to social events, and making appearances on the red carpet, such as at the 2006 premiere of Ashanti’s film “John Tucker Must Die.

Back in 2008, when our hit single ‘Body On Me’ made waves, people might have thought there was something more than friendship between me and Nelly. But let me clarify, we’re just pals who enjoy each other’s company. The music industry can be tough, so it’s great to have a buddy to laugh with and lighten the mood. As for those wedding rumors swirling around? Absolutely not! Not engaged at the moment, but who knows what the future holds? I’ll just say, ‘Ha! Ha!’

2009 saw rumors swirl that Nelly and Ashanti had ended their friendship, but in 2010, Nelly clarified to VladTV that they remain friendly. “We’re always going to be cool,” he said. “Currently, my focus is on my album, while hers is on her music and other projects. I think it’s just one of those things.” However, the rapper behind “Just a Dream” remained vague about their past relationship. He further explained, “To say we broke up implies that we were together in the first place, but our relationship has always been portrayed through media because we never publicly discussed it.

But not much time had passed when Ashanti and Nelly were once more seen together. Here, they can be seen at the 2012 Angel Ball.

In 2013, Ashanti’s statements on Hot 97 fueled speculations about a rift between her and Nelly. She expressed that they were both focusing on their respective careers at the time, and there had been several incidents that year which had become public knowledge more than in previous years. Ashanti also mentioned that things were said and done that shouldn’t have been, but unfortunately, they did occur. In 2015, she confirmed the split, attributing it to personal insecurities leading individuals to act out of character. She added that it was crucial for people to know themselves, understand their desires, and take responsibility for their actions. Ashanti also stated that she was now in a different place.

Moving forward to 2021, Ashanti and Nelly teamed up with Jermaine Dupri, Papoose, Ma, Fat Joe, Ja Rule, and Lil’ Mo for the VERZUZ battle between Fat Joe and Ja Rule.

The following year, they shared a stage once more, and the actress from John Tucker Must Die later discussed her views on second chances during an interview on Bevy Smith’s Bevelations. She stated, “I believe that people evolve, I believe that people grow, and I believe that people learn from their mistakes – though not everyone does. After all, you know what I’m saying? I feel like you definitely have to go through something that makes you change in your time.” Later on, she added, “You never know. What’s destined will come to pass, without a doubt. Did I think a few years ago that I would be performing with Nelly on stage? Absolutely not.

2023 saw Ashanti telling TopMob News that she and Nelly had reignited their relationship. The “Country Grammar” artist indicated that they hadn’t foreseen this reunion. In an appearance on Boss Moves With Rasheeda, he stated, “We’re back on good terms now.” He went on to say, “I believe it took us apart and then being separated made us understand each other better.

Ashanti shared the exciting news that she’s engaged to Nelly and expecting a baby. In her words, “This new chapter in my life is overflowing with love, optimism, and excitement.” She added, “Becoming a mother has been something I’ve longed for, and being able to share this joyous moment with my family, fiancé, and devoted fans who have always backed me, is an extraordinary experience.
