Lately, Asmodee unveiled a worldwide rebranding that included logo and consumer approach updates, and they’ve just incorporated one of CMON’s most successful brands into their portfolio. It’s well-known that CMON has faced some turbulence recently, primarily due to the volatile tariff situation, leading to job cuts at the company and a halt on new game projects and crowdfunding campaigns until conditions improve. As part of this ongoing strategy, CMON has now transferred one of its major brands to Asmodee, but there are two significant exceptions in this transaction.
It’s been revealed that Asmodee has taken ownership of the Zombicide franchise, previously held by CMON (through ICv2). Since its introduction in 2012, this popular franchise has seen sales exceeding 2 million copies globally. Currently, CMON is fulfilling the Kickstarter pledges for Zombicide: White Death, and the franchise has also recently released several expansions for its second edition, as well as games featuring characters from Marvel, DC, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Monty Python, and more.
Let’s discuss the two exceptions to this agreement, and they are significant for superhero enthusiasts. Specifically, CMON will continue to own the rights to the games “Marvel Zombies – A Zombicide Game” and the previously crowdfunded “DCeased – A Zombicide Game.” CMON has provided an update on the “DCeased” campaign page regarding how this deal impacts the game, which is yet to be delivered.
In simpler terms, CMON stated that the transition they’re going through won’t affect games like “DCeased” or any other titles with a similar system. These specific games will still be developed and distributed by CMON just as before. So, there’s no change in the fulfillment of the “DCeased” project, so keep an eye out for updates, and thanks for your continued support.

Regarding the transaction, it’s a significant acquisition even without certain elements from the collection. Asmodee had been partnering with CMON on distributing their games beforehand, and acquiring Zombicide now expands that partnership significantly. Thomas Koegler, CEO of Asmodee, expressed his pride in adding the renowned Zombicide intellectual property to their tabletop games collection, stating it will bolster their presence in key markets. He’s eager for his team to start working on what’s next for this exciting IP.
A New Era
In a separate announcement, CMON revealed that Asmodee would take over management of all current and future Zombicide games, with a few exceptions. This implies that the upcoming release of Zombicide: White Death will be the last mainline Zombicide title from CMON, although DCeased may still mark their final Zombicide game altogether when it is eventually released. You can read more about this deal in the statement provided by CMON below.
For quite some time, Zombicide has been a cherished title in CMON’s collection – one of the most memorable tabletop games that has left an indelible mark on our hearts. As we embark on exploring new and ongoing games, it was crucial for us to ensure that Zombicide remains under the watchful eye of a company well-versed in the series, possessing the ideal blend of abilities to steer it towards the future. We are beyond excited that Asmodee is that company and will now oversee all current and future editions of Zombicide games.
Regarding transitions such as this one, there’ll be a phase where CMON will still manage some support for the existing product in the series. We’ve just begun shipping Zombicide: White Death, and we’re incredibly proud to present our final game in the series. For the next six months, CMON will continue to assist all Zombicide: White Death backers. This includes handling replacements, answering any questions about the product, and ensuring a seamless experience for your pledge.
Our main goal continues to be providing an outstanding customer experience. We’re dedicated to ensuring this for our ongoing projects as well as all future games we’re working on. Daily progress is being made, so keep an eye out for updates when they come. Excitingly, some of these updates are already in the manufacturing stage and will start fulfillment soon within the next few months.
We’re equally thrilled about the future and can hardly contain our enthusiasm as we prepare to disclose information on our forthcoming retail products and secret endeavors. Although some may resemble past projects, others will offer fresh, unprecedented experiences for CMON. Trust us when we say that the creation of legendary tabletop games is deeply rooted in our company’s history, so stay tuned for more updates this year. As ever, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our community and cherish your backing. We wouldn’t be where we are without you, and it’s an honor to join you in the hobby.
Future of the Franchise
It’s yet unknown where Asmodee will steer the franchise next, particularly concerning intellectual property (IP). The game adaptation of Zombicide’s “Marvel Zombies” was hugely successful, and DCeased had no trouble with funding. The Turtles even collaborated with Zombicide in a special “White Death” expansion, indicating that fans appreciate the IP crossovers within the franchise. Here’s hoping this trend continues with Asmodee. Additionally, it’s likely we’ll see a lot of original characters and games, whether they’re part of the 2nd Edition main franchise, the Old West setting, or the medieval fantasy “White Death” spin-off.
From a gamer’s perspective, I’m thrilled about CMON’s ongoing lineup. I’ve got Death May Die and Marvel United games on my radar, with exciting expansions like X-Men and Multiverse additions. Not to mention, they’ve just dived into the DC Universe with DC United, a campaign that’s currently being delivered to backers. Exciting times ahead!
