In a recent blog post, Ubisoft has shared extensive insights on parkour in ‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘, featuring numerous agile moves that suit the speediest Assassin character, Naoe, ever made. Yet, an interesting tidbit was dropped by the associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois: Not all surfaces are suitable for climbing.
This new action RPG deviates from past titles and aligns with the style of 2023’s “Assassin’s Creed Mirage.” According to Lemay-Comtois, this shift is significant for the team. It allows them to be more meticulous in designing engaging parkour routes, granting them greater freedom to decide where Naoe can move and restrict Yasuke from certain areas, thereby enhancing the distinctiveness of our two playstyles.
For individuals worried about the need to mentally strategize while climbing, he offers comfort by stating that many surfaces remain accessible, with the grappling hook serving as an aid. On the other hand, finding “suitable starting points” might seem more complex than contemporary games, which is beneficial since it adds a layer of difficulty. In truth, Mirage was highly acclaimed for its parkour mechanics.
The game titled “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” is set to debut on February 14th, available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. The main storyline shares a similar length with previous titles such as “Assassin’s Creed Origins,” “Odyssey,” and “Valhalla.” For detailed information about the combat for both characters, click here.
