Following the postponement of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows“, Ubisoft has been gradually sharing more specifics about its mechanics such as stealth and combat. But, in a recent AMA on the “Assassin’s Creed” subreddit, the development team disclosed fresh details about the game’s duration, focusing particularly on the length of the main quest.
According to creative director Jonathan Dumont, it’s challenging to measure the duration of gameplay in open-world games because each player experiences and consumes the content differently. He considers the main storyline of “Shadows” to be similar to that of “Origins,” “Odyssey,” and “Valhalla.” While choices are indeed available, they don’t significantly branch off the core narrative as much as in “Odyssey.
It’s likely you remember him stating that the world’s scale is “somewhat similar to that found in Assassin’s Creed Origins,” emphasizing the “real-world scale comparison.” Associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois clarified that it’s “smaller than Valhalla” in terms of territory. However, comparing the main story length to past games can be challenging.
According to HowLongToBeat, the primary storyline for Assassin’s Creed Origins typically takes around 30 hours to complete. In contrast, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey demands approximately 45.5 hours, with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla requiring a substantial 60 hours. The design of Assassin’s Creed Shadows might lead some players to finish it quicker than others, but we’ll have to observe the gameplay to confirm.
On February 14th, 2025, the game titled “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” will be released for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC platforms. Unlike previous versions, it won’t offer early access or a Season Pass. Pre-orders, however, will receive its first expansion at no additional cost.
