In the latest blog post, Simon Lemay-Comtois, the associate game director, revealed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will showcase significant advancements. Unlike Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which was applauded for its stealth and parkour features, the sequel is set to introduce modifications such as surfaces that can no longer be climbed.
Initially, the positions of the ‘dodge’ and ‘crouch’ buttons have been reversed in this update, as ‘crouch’ now triggers a new prone position. Meanwhile, the ‘dodge’ action has been combined with parkour features, offering a variety of fresh maneuvers.
As a fan, I’d excitedly express that in Shadows, the dodge mechanics have been combined with parkour movements, opening up an array of fresh parkour tricks! This new setup separates stance-switching (like standing, crouching, or prone) from parkour, allowing for seamless use of any stance without accidentally plunging down a rooftop when it’s not desired. Lemay-Comtois shared this insight.
As long as Parkour Up and Parkour Down techniques are available, Naoe can skillfully evade close to a ledge for a jump-off or speedily dodge to clear obstacles like rails, crates (and even windows in some cases). When moving at high speeds, Automated Jumps over low barriers can be performed, but the Speed Dodge provides additional protection against damage.
One fascinating tactic she can employ is performing a roll when lying down, enabling her to exit cover for stealthy kills on opponents. Should she dodge backward on an edge, Naoe will perform a silent backflip upon landing. There’s a wealth of information to uncover, such as the grappling hook features, which allow for transitions between vertical climbing and horizontal swinging, and the ability to detach from walls while wall-running.
