Assassin's Creed Shadows Is Becoming One of Ubisoft's Most Important Releases Ever

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that the imminent release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has me on the edge of my seat. Ubisoft, as we all know, has had its fair share of ups and downs in recent years, with a string of less-than-stellar releases. However, given the immense popularity and success of the Assassin’s Creed series, this latest installment could very well be the game that steers Ubisoft back on course.

As a dedicated gamer, I must admit that Ubisoft’s recent releases have left much to be desired. Titles like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Skull and Bones, XDefiant, and Star Wars Outlaws have all fallen short, either critically or commercially. But now, more than ever, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows holds a significant weight for Ubisoft. With a string of disappointing releases, the success of this new Assassin’s Creed game is paramount to the company’s reputation and future projects.

Currently, Ubisoft’s shares are experiencing a significant drop, around 7.1% as of now. Over the past month, this decrease amounts to approximately 19%, and over the past year, it has dropped an impressive 40%. This places the current share price at $2.95, which is the lowest it’s been in a decade – Ubisoft stock last dipped below $3 per share in 2014. The situation has become so challenging for the company that one investor from AJ Investments has openly called for Ubisoft to reorganize and distance itself from its current management, allegedly exploiting shareholders.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Is Becoming One of Ubisoft's Most Important Releases Ever

Since Ubisoft has been facing significant challenges recently, the spotlight is shifting towards “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” scheduled for release in November. This is the first major installment in the Assassin’s Creed series since “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla” in 2020 and follows the spin-off game, “Assassin’s Creed Mirage” from last year. Given the impressive performance of “Valhalla,” Ubisoft has incredibly high hopes for “Shadows.” In fact, if “Shadows” fails to meet these expectations, it could cause more damage to Ubicoft than other games such as “Star Wars Outlaws,” “Avatar,” or “Skull and Bones.” Normally, a new Assassin’s Creed game is crucial for Ubisoft, but “Shadows” seems to be ten times more significant than usual.

Could it be possible that “Assassin’s Creed Shadow” could help Ubisoft during these challenging times? It’s tough to predict. Given past trends, it’s likely that “Shadows” will sell well due to the popularity of previous Assassin’s Creed games. However, “AC Shadows” has been embroiled in controversy since its unveiling, primarily due to the choice of protagonist Yasuke. Ubisoft addressed this controversy back in July with a message directed at Japanese Assassin’s Creed fans who were upset about the decisions made regarding “Shadows”. Whether this backlash will significantly impact the sales of “AC Shadows” remains uncertain.

The game titled “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” is scheduled to launch on November 15, 2024, and will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and personal computers. Following this release, there’s another Assassin’s Creed installment in the works, tentatively known as “Codename: Hexe”. This upcoming game is expected to focus significantly on the witch trials of the 16th century.
