Despite experiencing several postponements, game director Charles Benoit disclosed that the most recent delay, announced earlier this month, was primarily to give the studio additional time to refine and enhance the parkour aspects of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows”.
During an interview with IGN, Benoit explained that while the fundamental game systems remained unchanged, the primary reason for the delay was the challenging design of the roofs in the game’s Feudal Japan environment, particularly their interaction with the parkour system.
Benoit commented, “The intricate nature of Japanese architecture is unparalleled, even compared to Odyssey and Syndicate. Demanding specialized codes and animations, we aimed to create a seamless transition in parkour, making it as fluid as possible. This was a common piece of feedback we received, and we’ve seen significant improvements in this area over the past few months.
Additionally, Benoit shared that they were developing several elements aimed at enhancing engagement and finding a better balance.
Lately, Ubisoft has disclosed the computer system requirements necessary to run Assassin’s Creed Shadows. In this list, Ubisoft provides different hardware options for various settings – these include selective ray tracing, standard ray tracing, and extended ray tracing. Surprisingly, there’s no option without ray tracing.
Beyond this, gamers should have at least one of the following configurations as minimum requirements: an Intel Core i7 8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 for their CPU, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 8GB, AMD Radeon RX 5700 8GB, or Intel Arc A580 8GB for their GPU, and a minimum of 16GB RAM. It’s worth noting that even with these specifications, the system may not handle ray tracing too intensively and would only manage to run the game at 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second with graphics settings set to low.
Beyond discussing the hardware details, Ubisoft has also verified that “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” offers numerous customization options for PC gamers, such as compatibility with Nvidia DLSS 3.7, AMD FSR 3.1, and Intel XeSS 2. The game is designed to work with ultrawide monitors, and includes a benchmark mode to enable players to fine-tune their settings even more.
Even though the main title hasn’t been unveiled yet, Ubisoft has confirmed their initial DLC titled “Claws of Awaji,” as revealed in a trailer. This DLC is one of the pre-order incentives for “Assassin’s Creed Shadows.” It offers over 10 hours of content, including an array of new equipment and a whole new area for players to delve into. The announcement was made earlier this week, following an accidental listing on the game’s Steam store page.
In “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” the narrative centers around not one but two main characters – Naoe and Yasuke – set within the backdrop of Feudal Japan. Recently, a story trailer was unveiled that showcases the interaction between these characters, as well as their connection with Oda Nobunaga.
The game is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S on March 20.
