Due to a formal presentation in Kyoto, the knowledgeable Genki had the opportunity to speak with the creative director Charles Benoit, who graciously shared various details.
Initially, it might take the majority of players about 30 to 45 hours to finish Shadows’ main storyline. However, if you choose to tackle all the side missions and delve deeply into the open world, your playtime could potentially double, reaching approximately 80 hours.
In simpler terms, the Shadows game should have a slightly shorter playtime compared to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, as Valhalla is frequently criticized for being overly long.
Subsequently, Benoit discloses that the developer is mulling over several upgrades, one of which is the New Game+ mode, contingent on player interest. Notably, New Game+ had not been incorporated into Valhalla earlier, leading to a significant debate among fans who yearned to replay their viking journey with all their endgame equipment still in tow.
Key insights from the interview highlight Benoit emphasizing the versatility of Shadows’ open-world setup. The environment evolves with time, such as seasons shifting, which reshapes landscapes and presents fresh possibilities for activities. Additionally, a day-night cycle is in place, compelling players to strategize their approach, particularly if they aim for stealth.
Remarkably, Benoit also focuses on the “interactive dismantling mechanism” in the title. In other words, environmental vulnerability is consistently a part of gameplay – a novelty for Assassin’s Creed – enabling you to slice through objects or shatter them into fragments. The director doesn’t delve deeply into this aspect, but it seems promising.
