Hey there fellow gamers! I’ve just jumped into Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and it feels like this game is making quite a splash, even after just a few days. Ubisoft’s reporting that over 2 million of us have dived into the game since its release, which is an impressive start!
But
Although Shadows didn’t quite reach the heights set by Valhalla in this particular aspect, it actually performed better in a few other areas. For instance, Shadows secured Ubisoft’s biggest Day 1 launch ever on the PlayStation Store. Now that’s a record to be proud of!
The popularity of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” can be observed on Twitch as well. Data from VGC reveals that the game has garnered over 11 million hours of viewership since its release, surpassing the viewer hours during the launch of “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.” Moreover, “Shadows” debuted with a higher Metacritic score. The game appears to have had a successful launch on PlayStation and, judging by SteamDB figures, it’s off to a strong start on Steam too. Over the weekend, it recorded a peak of 64,825 concurrent players, indicating a high level of interest. It seems Ubisoft has produced a game that is well-received and could be a much-needed success for them.
The victory of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” was far from certain. Although Assassin’s Creed is a series that typically excels for Ubisoft, the publisher had a significant amount at stake with this game’s performance. There was an impression that the publisher required a significant triumph to counter recent high-profile commercial flops like “Star Wars Outlaws.” Furthermore, delays in the release date raised concerns about the game’s status; initially scheduled for November 2024, Ubisoft eventually moved it to February 2025, and later again to March 20th. Typically, such delays are not a positive indication, but Ubisoft claimed that “the extra time will enable the team to better implement player feedback from the past three months and foster optimal conditions for launch.
As a gamer, I’ve been keeping an eye on how well the latest Assassin’s Creed, Shadows, has been doing. It’s been raking in the success so far, but we’ll have to wait and see if it can maintain this momentum and potentially surpass the earnings of its predecessor, Valhalla. Time will tell, and I hope that positive buzz among gamers keeps the game selling strong all year long.
Given the whispers about Ubisoft potentially divesting some of its studios, it appears that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has come just when the publisher needs it most. Let’s hope this is an indication of better days ahead and more prominent successes in the future.
