Assassin’s Creed Shadows Stealth Overview Details Observe Mechanic, Shinobi Tools, and More

As a seasoned Assassin’s Creed fan with years of stealth-action gaming under my belt, I must say that the latest installment, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has me truly excited. The focus on refining the stealth mechanics and the introduction of the shinobi character, Naoe, promises a fresh take on the series I hold dear.

If events had unfolded differently backstage, Assassin’s Creed Shadows would have already been out for sale. However, Ubisoft has opted to delay its release in order to fine-tune the game and ensure a top-notch playing experience. The anticipation surrounding every aspect of the game is high, particularly with regards to the stealth mechanics, which have always played a significant role in the Assassin’s Creed series.

Ubisoft has given us a comprehensive breakdown that shares fresh insights into the stealth features of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows.” This appears to indicate a greater emphasis on stealth in the upcoming open-world action RPG, especially when controlling Naoe the shinobi. However, it’s important to note that some of these stealth mechanics will also be accessible for Yasuke the samurai, who is the game’s secondary main character alongside Naoe.

In the new setup, both characters will acquire the Observe mechanics, allowing players to mark, recognize, and label targets, adversaries, loot, collectibles, and quest objectives. Conversely, unlike in previous Assassin’s Creed games where an eagle companion could be controlled and flown around, in this case, when playing as Naoe, you will be equipped with Eagle Vision.

Stepping back into the world of beloved Assassin’s Creed games, I’m thrilled to find that Eagle Vision has been refined as a standalone stealth tool, offering a more focused approach for scoping out my surroundings. This enhanced vision lets me pause and examine my adversaries and important game elements – such as hiding spots – in greater detail. Interestingly, I can also blend Eagle Vision with the Observe mechanic to spot and mark enemies even if they’re hidden behind walls.

As a stealthy gamer embodying Naoe, I’ll be granted an enlarged repertoire of moves tailored for silent infiltration. Dubbed as shinobi moves, these will let me conceal myself within the shadows, annihilate light sources with my trusty shuriken to create darkness, sneak around while crouching to minimize noise (particularly on squeaky indoor floors), and even drop flat and crawl at will.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Naoe is equipped with four distinctive shinobi and assassin tools. There are smoke bombs, serving their traditional purpose of creating smokescreens; kunai knives, capable of delivering one-hit fatal blows when thrown accurately; shuriken, which can stun enemies or serve as diversions in the environment; and shinobi bells, used to attract and divert the attention of adversaries.

Besides the skills mentioned earlier, Naoe can also maneuver by slipping through narrow openings, conceal himself in small areas and containers, swiftly seize foes from behind and tug them prior to eliminating them or subduing them peacefully, and let’s not forget the option for dual assassinations.

As a gamer, I’ll tell you that Yasuke’s stealth moveset might not be as expansive since he leans more towards combat. However, what sets him apart are his special abilities: he can wield a bow for silent and long-range takedowns, and if he manages to sneak up on enemies without being detected, he’s got melee weapons at the ready for close-quarter assassinations.
