Astérix & Obélix: The Big Fight series confirms Netflix release date

As a passionate cinephile, I’ve always enjoyed the humorous adventures of Asterix and Obelix in the beloved comic series. Over the years, these tales have been brought to life on the big screen, most frequently as films. Among the adaptations, the latest one that caught my eye is Netflix’s own live-action rendition titled “Astérix and Obélix: The Middle Kingdom.

During the early 1st millennium, Rome is determined to subdue the final free village in Gaul, a place where the duo Astérix and Obélix reside.

The key to the Gauls’ dominance in battles was a magical elixir, however, when the one who brewed it fell into amnesia, the villagers were forced to rely on their own resources as they faced the powerful Roman forces.

The French television show was developed and overseen by Alain Chabat, who previously penned and helmed the 2002 live-action movie “Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra”. Fabrice Joubert shared directing duties with Chabat on the series and collaborated with Benoît Oullion and Piano in writing it.

The project involving Asterix, a well-known French cultural icon, was initially unveiled in the year 2021. Subsequently, Dominique Bazay, director of original animation at Netflix, made an announcement through a statement expressing his enthusiasm: “I’m thrilled to share that Netflix is collaborating with France’s top publisher to introduce Asterix to a fresh wave of global audiences.

In collaboration with Hachette’s Les Editions Albert René, we will be producing the inaugural animated miniseries, inspired by a cherished, age-old tale.

Netflix has just revealed the launch dates for several forthcoming productions, among which are the British series like “Toxic Town” and “Adolescence.
