It appears that work on a follow-up to the game “Astral Chain” started in 2021 by PlatinumGames. However, internal issues within the company led to increased involvement from Nintendo, causing the project to be restarted in 2023 with a targeted release for the Nintendo Switch 2. The situation became so severe that Nintendo reportedly warned about canceling the sequel and assigning it to another developer. While the text doesn’t specify which studio Nintendo might consider, fans on Reddit have suggested some potential candidates, with Koei Tecmo being one possibility due to their past collaboration with Nintendo over the last decade.
A recent post on the forum for the game suggests a grim outlook for PlatinumGames. Moreover, the possibility of Nintendo taking a project back from an external studio is not implausible; they did exactly that with “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond” this generation, scrapping all previous work and assigning the project to Retro Studios instead.
As a gaming enthusiast eagerly awaiting April’s Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2, I can hardly contain my excitement about what promising titles might be in the pipeline for this new console. Since PlatinumGames delivered the captivating “Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon” back in 2023, it’s evident that they’ve been busy crafting something exceptional over the past two years – even though we don’t know exactly what that secret project entails. If PlatinumGames is indeed working on a follow-up to the critically acclaimed “Astral Chain,” I sincerely hope it manages to surpass its predecessor in every aspect.
