However, only one Game of the Year could be awarded for 2024, and that title went to Astro Bot, a family-friendly platform game that stood out among its competitors with unique design, objectives, and more. It’s no surprise then, that Funko is also joining in the celebration, not by presenting a trophy, but instead unveiling an adorable Astro Bot Funko Pop! figure.
This brand new Pop figure showcases the robot soaring through the air with its thrusters activated and mechanical limbs extended forward. The packaging will bear the Game of the Year label, making this collectible a significant part of gaming lore. It also includes a protective case. You can pre-order this Pop on the Funko website as an exclusive item at $25, but keep in mind that it is only available for pre-order until Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 9:30 AM PST / 12:30 PM EST.
If you haven’t yet had a chance to play the award-winning platformer, a physical version of Astrobot is currently on sale at Amazon, and at the time of writing, the price is now $49.97, down from the original price of $59.99. Back in September, Comicbook’s own Logan Moore reviewed the game, giving it a 5/5 overall. According to Moore, “Despite having high expectations for Astro Bot, Team Asobi still found a way to surpass all of my hopes. This isn’t just one of the best games of 2024, it’s one of the best platformers that I have played in the last decade. Those who have a long attachment to PlayStation or just a simple love for games of this genre cannot let Astro Bot pass them by.”
According to that review, it seems Astro Bot offers a refreshing change from the big-budget, cinematic games that have been popular recently. By focusing more on creativity and fun rather than endless missions, Team Asobi has addressed a demand that players didn’t realize existed.
