Which consoles and platforms can play Astro Bot?

On September 6th, 2024, you can expect the release of Astro Bot on the brand-new PlayStation 5. Similar to his past adventures, this game is set to be a PlayStation exclusive, as Sony has officially announced.

As a passionate cinephile, I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming cinematic masterpiece, which is being meticulously crafted by the talented Team Asobi – the Japanese studio renowned for their captivating work on Astro’s previous games such as Playroom and Rescue Mission. And, as expected, this production is proudly backed by Sony, a name synonymous with high-quality cinematic experiences.

As a film enthusiast, I should clarify that during our recent discussions, there was no hint about a PlayStation 4 or PS VR2 adaptation of the game. So, it seems reasonable to infer that these platforms might be left out from the project.

Astro Bot release date: PS5 game pre-order, trailer and news

Previously, Astro Bot character was featured in two different games: Astro Bot Rescue Mission in 2018, which demonstrated the powers of the initial PlayStation VR headset, and later in Astro’s Playroom in 2020.

In the demonstration, they showcased the exclusive capabilities of the DualSense controller on PS5, and also guided players through a retrospective journey spanning 25 years of PlayStation gaming.

Now, the mini robot (Astro Bot) is all geared up for a full-fledged solo journey instead. As reported by Sony, this adventure will take Astro through six galaxies, featuring no less than 80 distinct levels. The goal? To find his missing team members scattered across these galaxies.

Astro gains access to fifteen new skills, such as a bulldog power that allows him to break through opponents and Twin-Frog Gloves which grant the user long-range punching capabilities and the ability to traverse stages by swinging.

According to reports, these distinct abilities leverage the capabilities of the DualSense controller, meaning you’ll encounter a lot of tactile feedback and adjustable resistance in the triggers.

Sony has also added 70 new enemy types and major boss levels at the end of each galaxy to overcome.

From the trailer, it appears that the game seems to adopt a vibrant and colorful visual aesthetic similar to Astro’s Playroom, implying each level will be filled with vivid hues.

There appear to be underwater locations, one resembling a casino, and a floating PlayStation DualSense controller, if only such things were possible in reality.

Is there an Astro Bot trailer?

Yes, there is an Astro Bot trailer – and we’ve included it below.

Beyond showcasing the breathtaking stages in this game, it also offers a sneak peek into some of Astro’s freshly introduced skills (as previously mentioned), an array of zany boss battles, and, quite intriguingly, Kratos’s Leviathan Axe from God of War, which he wields in a mechanical suit.

Astro Bot is shaping up to be a charming romp in the world of PlayStation!
