At CES 2025, Asus has debuted its new external graphics unit, the Asus ROG XG Mobile, which links to a computer via Thunderbolt 5 technology. This innovative eGPU promises power on par with a GeForce RTX 5090 mobile graphics chip, and it breaks away from using proprietary cables, opting for the more universal Thunderbolt 5 connection instead.
As a gamer, I’m excited to share that the latest version of the Asus ROG XG Mobile packs quite a punch when it comes to connectivity options. It boasts USB ports, an SD card reader, versatile USB-C ports, and even 5 Gbps Ethernet for a smooth online gaming experience. Plus, it supports multiple monitors with DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 ports, ensuring a seamless multi-screen setup for an immersive gaming session!
Although Asus has unveiled details about the new XG Mobile, it hasn’t disclosed specific performance figures for the device yet. The device retails at $2,199.99. Moreover, Asus has also introduced a comparable system, powered by the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, which comes with a price tag of $1,199.99.
These external graphics processors (eGPUs) are typically aimed at individuals who desire maximum computing power in their system but don’t wish to invest in a large desktop PC that consumes space and lacks portability compared to a laptop. These eGPUs offer an excellent value for users seeking to enhance their laptop’s hardware performance, particularly its graphics processing capabilities, while maintaining portability.
The newly introduced Asus eGPUs utilize mobile variants of the latest desktop GPUs from Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 50-series range, a series which will launch four new graphics cards within the following two months.
