At Least Sony’s New PS2 Classic Has a Platinum Trophy on PS5, PS4

It’s extremely aggravating that issues persist with the PS Plus Premium service and Sony’s efforts to offer classic games on both PS5 and PS4. The puzzle pieces seem to be in place for the platform holder, yet they appear to be struggling to deliver satisfying content.

This week, we’re fine with the launch of Battle Engine Aquila, as it appears to be an engaging throwback to the PS2 era that some might have missed. However, the concern lies in the fact that it’s the sole retro game addition this week, when a significant number of titles are being taken off Sony’s subscription service.

We acknowledge that it must be quite challenging to secure publishing rights from prestigious companies like Square Enix and Capcom, given the exceptional success of remakes like Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake and collections such as Capcom Fighting Collection 2, which are selling exceptionally well in the current market.

However, with such an abundance of games spanning the PS1, PSP, and PS2, it’s becoming increasingly frustrating that new releases are coming at a snail’s pace. Subscribers deserve more frequent updates, and Sony could certainly improve by making more of this classic content accessible.

As an ardent fan, I’m eagerly sending this message across, hoping it reaches the platform holder. The emulator they’ve created today is truly impressive! It’s a delight to see that most games now come with Trophies, adding an extra layer of excitement. Plus, the flexibility to choose between PAL and NTSC builds makes the gaming experience even more authentic and enjoyable. Keep up the fantastic work!

This brings us back to the main topic: Battle Engine Aquila indeed includes Trophies, and based on reviews, it’s definitely worth exploring. However, we’re hoping for a broader impact from this project in general. We’re not criticizing the game – quite the contrary, it’s exciting to see its revival – but we’re eager for more from this initiative as a whole.
