Atomfall surpasses 1.5 million players to become Rebellion’s most successful game launch in 32 years

For a considerable period, Rebellion has been producing video games, some of which have been quite impressive. However, their latest offering, Atomfall, could eclipse them all. According to the company, since its release on March 27, Atomfall has amassed over 1.5 million players, making it the most successful launch in Rebellion’s 32-year history.

As the game master of Atomfall, I’m thrilled to see so many gamers immersed in our world! It’s impressive how quickly we’ve hit the one million player mark, a testament to the sheer talent and commitment of every team member here at Rebellion. Being a larger, steadier studio allows us to take bold steps like creating Atomfall – and it seems that gamble is really paying off!

Kingsley made his statement as Atomfall reached over a million players, however, Rebellion announced just today that the number has climbed further.

The mention of “size and stability” in relation to Rebellion reminds us of comments made by Kingsley in a March interview with PC Gamer, where he suggested that the studio’s ability to manage their game’s scope and budget has allowed them to avoid layoffs during the turbulent period in the gaming industry.

At one point, Kingsley expressed his preference for a well-crafted, compact game over a large game that lacks focus on the player’s experience. He emphasized their commitment to managing project scope and budget effectively, often reminding the team, “This game is becoming too big.

As a gamer, I’ve been immersed in Atomfall for quite some time now, and let me tell you, it’s been a blast! This game seems to have borrowed elements from classics like Fallout and Stalker, but what sets it apart is its tighter, more focused approach. So far, it hasn’t shown any signs of falling short (at least not yet, I’m still relatively new to the game), but rather, it stands as a solid, entertaining shooter with a touch of humor here and there. Unlike some games that promise you the world and let you climb every mountain, Atomfall doesn’t pretend to tackle that grandeur. Instead, it delivers an enjoyable, unpretentious gaming experience.

Concurrent player numbers on Steam have been okay but not great, peaking out at a little over 6,000 concurrents during Atomfall’s first weekend of release. The 1.5 million player count is no doubt driven largely by Atomfall’s presence on Game Pass, where everyone can give it a spin for no more cost than what they’re paying for their subscription anyway.

Despite the fact that the number of copies sold may not have reached astronomical heights, Kingsley appears content: “We’re delighted that players are enjoying their journey through the world of Atomfall and eagerly anticipate providing more content for the game in the future.

Atomfall does in fact have at least one story expansion planned called Wicked Isle that will feature a new location, enemies, characters, weapons, items, and gameplay features. A release date for that hasn’t been set.
