Atomfall’s Wicked Isle DLC is coming sooner than you think and fully embraces folk horror

In March, the unconventional survival action game titled Atomfall, which is set in the mysterious landscapes of North West England, was released. By June 3, 2025, it will receive a significant DLC expansion called Wicked Isle. This expansion will not only broaden the game’s storyline but also introduce an entirely new location to explore, along with fresh endings for the main plot.

Atomfall leans hard into folk horror for its first DLC

Among the intriguing elements of Atomfall, one particularly captivating aspect is the mystical lore it presents; its narrative and the elusive Druids who inhabit the shadowy regions of the map. It appears that the creators of Wicked Isle have fully immersed themselves in this eerie cult horror motif.

You’ll encounter fresh adversaries such as pirate marauders and tainted druids. To aid your survival, you can discover an array of new weaponry scattered across the island, including a powerful Blunderbuss shotgun, a novel bow, a cutlass, daggers, and the Beekeeper’s Staff.

Apart from exploring the fresh territory on Midsummer Island, you’ll encounter a brand-new cast of characters, some friends, some foes. You’ll also come across fresh leads to pursue. Additionally, you’ll discover new weapons, abilities, and items to enhance your gameplay. Existing equipment like the metal detector can be improved too, allowing for more valuable loot discoveries.

A second chance for Atomfall (at least for me)

In my initial experience with Atomfall, I found myself in a mixed state. Despite appreciating its distinctive setting and game mechanics, the Xbox edition had an annoying sound glitch that wasn’t addressed until post-completion by me.

However, the game’s originality has left me eager to delve deeper, discovering what enhancements might have been made since then. Rebellion has skillfully created a captivating setting, and it’s delightful to play a game with an authentically English humor and idiosyncrasies.

The upcoming DLC’s direction seems distinct enough from the main narrative to pique my interest once more, and since I wasn’t satisfied with my initial ending, I’m thrilled to investigate alternative outcomes.

Atomfall garnered 2.5 million players since its launch, so I suspect there are many others eagerly awaiting this DLC as well. I’ll be revisiting Atomfall on June 3, will you?
