Attack on Titan Movie’s Theatrical Run in North America Expands

Title “Attack On Titan: The Final Battle” suggests that this movie is a compilation of the last episodes from the gruesome “Attack on Titan” series, yet it’s been earning substantial box office revenues in Japan. Soon, North American viewers will have the opportunity to witness Eren Jaeger’s climactic battle against the Scout Regiment on the big screen. Despite no plans for a sequel or spin-off at this time, “Attack on Titan” continues to dominate the anime world, and its impact will endure long after it’s gone.

If you haven’t heard yet, “Attack on Titan: The Last Attack” is an extended movie, clocking in at approximately two and a half hours. Most of the film consists of remastered footage from the TV series, but there’s one entirely new scene that has left many viewers bewildered. The Last Attack concludes with a post-credits sequence that presents a unique twist on characters such as Eren, Armin, Mikasa, and even Captain Levi. This final scene draws inspiration from the storyline called “Attack on School Castes,” and it adds an intriguing layer of self-reference to the series’ conclusion.

When Will The Last Attack Attack?

Starting from February 10th, the initial and possibly final “Attack on Titan” film was initially scheduled for a limited cinema release. However, due to the series’ popularity, screenings have been extended until February 13th, allowing “The Final Attack” to spend more time on the big screen. The popularity of anime compilation films is growing as fans flock to cinemas to watch them. Series like “Demon Slayer,” “Bocchi The Rock,” and “Jujutsu Kaisen” are just a few examples of anime that have experienced significant success with this approach. Although it appears that the “Attack on Titan” movie covers the end of the series, there have been instances of the unexpected happening.

The Attack on Titan Movies

When I mention that “The Last Attack” is the first movie adaptation of “Attack on Titan”, I’m overlooking a significant earlier instance. In the year 2015, Japan premiered two live-action “Attack on Titan” films, which have been met with criticism from anime enthusiasts post-release. These movies boast some striking visuals, but they also veer quite far from the original storyline and introduce characters and elements that might seem unfamiliar or even unbelievable if you were to learn about them.

Previously, Warner Bros Pictures had shown enthusiasm for producing a live-action version of Attack on Titan, with It and The Flash director Andy Muschietti initially attached to the project. However, after Muschietti left the project, no updates have been shared about the status of this fresh take on the Scout Regiment in live-action form.
