Attack on Titan: The Last Attack Reveals Its Release Date (But There’s a Catch)

As a seasoned anime enthusiast with over two decades of dedication to the art form, I can confidently say that the upcoming release of “Attack on Titan: The Last Attack” is an event of monumental proportions. Having followed this masterpiece since its humble beginnings in 2013, I’ve witnessed the evolution of its characters and storylines, and the transition from WIT Studio to MAPPA was a testament to the resilience and adaptability of this franchise.

The highly anticipated movie, titled “Attack on Titan: Final Battle“, is set to hit U.S. cinemas soon. Originally announced in August 2024, this film is a combination of Parts 3 and 4 from the final season of the series. After WIT Studio couldn’t maintain the tight production schedule, MAPPA took over animation duties. Initially, fans were apprehensive, but the fourth season exceeded expectations and some even consider it the best in the entire series. Despite the change in studios, Hiroshi Seko continued as head writer for both the final season and this movie. Although the manga concluded controversially in 2021, minor adjustments and stunning animation have moved many hearts with its conclusion.

What Is Attack on Titan: The Last Attack About?

Under the guidance of director Yuichiro Hayashi, the film brings together the concluding chapters of the Attack on Titan animated series. With Eren’s actions posing a significant risk to human survival, his companions and former adversaries band together in an attempt to halt the catastrophic event known as the Rumbling. The Rumbling is a destructive force that involves over 500,000 Colossal Titans concealed within the three defensive walls of Paradis Island: Wall Maria, Wall Rose, and Wall Sheena. Eren harnesses the power of the Founding Titan to unleash these Titans, causing chaos outside of Paradis Island as they trample upon humanity.

In their colossal and fiery advance, the Titans leave devastation in their wake. As the world grapples with this apocalyptic peril, Armin, Mikasa, and the Scout Regiment unite forces with the Marleyan military survivors, including Reiner Braun. Yet, amid his destructive onslaught, Eren wrestles with guilt over the countless lives he’s inadvertently ended. Nonetheless, he presses forward, convinced it’s the sole means to protect his comrades and fellow Eldians. The conflict results in the loss of approximately 80% of humanity, leaving Mikasa determined to save the world – though she knows it will come at a great cost.
